Asian Rapper "Jin" Music Video

For the record I had NOTHING to do with this video. I am posting it after chatting with the Director Todd Angkasuwan that told me it was totally shot with the DVX100! I knew it looked good when I first saw it but had no idea it was shot with the Panasonic! I will have to contact him again to get the particulars like if he used a Mini35 lens etc.

Asian Rapper "Jin" is signed to Virgin Records - Ruff Ryders Label. I am being told that this video should be in rotation on Mtv soon if not already. The song is called "Top Five Dead or Alive" which Jin pays homage to pioneer rappers dead or alive!

I know that kid Jin. He ALWAYS hung out at that record store by west 4th in the village (NYC) and battled dudes all night. He's good at battling but not a good song writer. Can't wait to hear this one, downloading now. I hope he's gotten better.

Alright, just watched it. lol, the opening scene is the record store that I mentioned! That's funny... That little door way between the market and Bagel signs is the entrance way into fat beats. I spent mad time there in the past.

Video was hot

Gin hasn't improved. He's still a dope battle m.c. and told a good story in this song but still....

the video needs some good CC to make it larger then life. I understand why they did what they did as far as appearance but it could look so much more alive.

Thanks for posting this.

Nice. Underground NYC hip hop, someone is going to have to update me about the scene. I just got an apartment on Bleeker St. a block from NYU. Time to lug my equipment around NYC looking for MV gigs.

Were those dolly shots in the Record Store?
Some of the composites need some help color/design -wise. :undecided

Cool concept. Its like that rock video out now where they tell write their "dirty little secrets" and show the camera.

Does the director have a website?

thanx for post.

Hey man, good stuff. Think you did a good job with the compositing and motion graphics. What was your time frame from Day of Shooting to Delivery? And how many people worked on the post?

Wave rider I had NOTHING to do with the making or editing of that video. I met the director over the weekend. I will have to get back to him about the specifics.

esco... damn dude thats some pricey realestae, do you have like 13 people sharing your apatment?

I'm staying with my GF, so we split it. Its expensive but it's only for the semester.

Long term Brooklyn seems like a better choice. I lived in Brooklyn Heights last Spring, right near the bridge.

I guess questions about this video will not be answered because the director/dp isn't on the forum?

Come on Coffee, take it easy on the guy.

Just downloading the clip. Hummm, let's see if you are right.

COFFEE!!! we were looking for you at the HD discussion last night. I printed out your avatar and compared it with everyone there...
The DP they had there was really interesting but he kept getting cut off during his talk. I hated that, it seemed he was the only one I wanted to listen to. Everyone else was asking questions about the actual hardware and stuff you can get off product sites. P2 this and resolution that, interlace here progressive there. Didnt learn much because the speakers kept getting cut off as soon as they started to say something interesting. They kept getting steered back to talking about things that were pretty much subjective. Everyone on the panel was pretty good I guess. I would have liked to hear more about techniques with HD than specs.
The video was pretty low budget looking I think. I liked the hook and what he was saying but yeah, someone mentioned this. The shots repearted way too often.

Aram, sorry man. lol, the snow scared me enough to keep me in the house. My car is horrible in the ice.

debo, I'll PM you in a minute.

Word.

10 years ... you must have an extensive roster/catalog. Where can we listen? Who have you worked with?

Hmm not very impressed, if that goes on mtv like that... then their standards are dropping fast, didn't take advantage of the 35 adapter at all.
It's too much of the rapper, which is okay, but then the shots have to be more varied, and interesting.
Personally, I like my rap videos with more b-roll.
The song is nice tho, its like an encyclopedia.
