Hey, I worked on a short film from October to December last year and the editing is finally done (aside from a couple audio tweaks)!
I did all of the cinematography for the film! It's called "Arty Ross: Supernatural Investigator".

It's crazy that my first short film was 20 minutes long, but it was an absolute thrilling experience!

The director is planning on pushing it to festivals, so the film is not uploaded onto YouTube yet. It's in a Google Docs folder!

It was shot using a GH4 in 4k, compressed down to 1080p.

Please let me know what you liked/hated so I can make this even more of a learning experience! You don't have to watch all of it, but give it a couple minutes at least. The intro sequence is after 2.5 minutes.

I haven't had time to watch it all, but I'll tell you what I like so far:

The sound and mix was awesome! You did have some autogain issues around 8:57 though.
Camera movement was very good.
Special effects were decent.
Story arc was spot on.
Lighting was decent.

Thanks for taking any time at all, estarkey!

The director/editor used this project as a portfolio piece and as a way to gain more editing experience. He is beginning a career in editing, so this gave him some great practice.

I'm always looking to improve my sound and lighting quality (can't do too much with sound once I hand the mic to an inexperienced boom op though).
For a majority of the lighting, I used diffusion clipped onto lights, pointed directly onto actors. A no-no, I've come to realize. I'm experimenting with foamcore, softboxes, and 4x4 gels. My future productions will definitely have improvements in soft lighting, detail lighting, and control. Are there any specifics that I should focus on to improve my lighting, aside from the before mentioned?
