Artifacts in log and transfer fcp

Hello.

I have seen a few posts about this, but no real answers.
I am transfering clips 720 x 1080 50i (PAL) in FCP 6.0.4 using Log and Transfer, Pro res 422
Some of the clips have huge bands of colored artifacts, it is arbitrary, sometimes I think it has to do with contrast between lights and darks, but I am not sure.

The clip on the card plays fine in the camera, meaning no glitches.

What should I do? How can I retransfer the footage so the glitches don't appear?

Please help. We are going on a year long shoot and need to resolve this.

I don't use FCP so I can't tell you off-hand, but I know other people have found this and posted pictures of what it sounds like you are describing. Try searching while you're waiting for an FCP user.
 
What formats are you shooting? It's not clear from your post, I'm afraid.

1080i50 works fine, as does 1080p25. I had problems with some of the 720-line formats - there have been previous threads on this, though things may have changed with more recent versions of Final Cut Pro. If memory serves I had success with 720p50 and 720p60, but 720p25 led to nasty artefacts. I've been happily shooting 1080p25 and haven't bothered going back to check the 720 formats. If you're running Final Cut prior to about version 6.0.5, update - there were significant fixes to AVCHD import earlier in the v6 cycle.

Also, if you're off on a year-long shoot, you should be budgeting time to test your particular workflow with extreme care. You need to be confident that you have a stable route for your footage, and you should also be exploring the camera's image control settings. There's lots to learn about these little cameras.
 
Thank you. We will upgrade to FCP 6.05. We are shooting at 1080 50i PAL.

what would you recommend as a stable work flow?
what should be explore about the camera's image control setting? do you mean the scene files?

any assistance would be so greatly appreciated.
