artifacts in DVD output

I recently shot a short project with the opening scene of school buses coming towards the camera. When rendered to DVD there is artifacting in the moving bus.

I shoot in 24p, with the original DVX 100, edit on a 29.97 timeline, and output to DVD using Adobe Encore in a 2 pass VBR.

Any thoughts on how to avoid this type artifacting in the future?

Thanks

I will try to describe what I am seeing but I am not sure I have the vocabulary to properly articulate. While the bus is approaching the the large type that reads " School Bus" appears to go in and out of focus. Like it was pixelating. Does that help answer your question? This is only on the DVD not on tape.

Weird. Post pics. It could have to do with interlacing (most likely), could have to do with a low bitrate and fast motion. Are you playing it back on a normal TV or on your computer? DVDs with 3:2 pulldown look AWFUL on my mac, though my pc is smart enough to remove the pulldown as they play.

I just put together a 16:9 anamorphic DVD a week or so ago at 24p (I'm so proud of myself for finally making it work; DVD Studio Pro can be stupid) and I must say, I'll never use any other workflow now. The end result is just super-clean and looks great on HDTV. There are some noticeable artifacts in the blacks and reds, though, but only if you're looking for them.

A friend thought it might be an interlacing issue as well. The DVD was renedered as a 2 pass 4mbVBR so I think its as high as I can get. How would you suggest de-interlacing if that is possible. Again I am on a 29.97 timeline.
