SHORT: Art of Dreaming

El Gato Negro

Well-known member
Wanted to share my latest film project that I am directing and writing entitled - Art of Dreaming.

Synopsis

An artist is trapped between the realm of his dreams and paintings as he mourns the death of his dead muse.

The short will be shot on 35mm.

Here are some colored illustrations from my Art Director - Gordon Delgado.

Considering how expensive film is my only option is to use a combination of non-profit and crowd-funding.

For the time being one of my top priorities is to build an official website and meet with my line producer to finish up the budget.

Second phase will be to do some test still on 35mm with my lead actor James Gonzaba.

Well the concept drawings are gorgeous. Another 5-6 of those and you should be able to make a good kickstarter video.

I am curious about one thing. When you say he's stuck between the realm of his dreams and his paintings, does this mean there will be scenes where he is in one of his paintings? If so, how do you plan on doing this visually?

Hey Henderson. We are doing a total of 6 colored illustrations for funding raising. Highest donations will receive an original painting. Not sure if my circle is big enough to do Kickstarter unless I partner with a filmmaker/web mogul. I feel my main option is going through a non-profit.

The ones I have up are the 1st two and I'm picking the next two early this week. As far as combining both realms its going to be via sets. The sets for the "dreaming" sequences have heavy art direction. It's going to be a mix of camera, art department, special effects and sets. Keeping the digital FX at a bare minimum.

Very nice, i'm glad you're keeping the digital effects to a minimum. There's a Robin Williams film called "What Dreams May Come" and there is a part of the film where he is in a "painting" like enviroment. It was done digitally and I couldn't watch the film because of how annoying it looked to me.

At an important stage on decided wither to form an LLC, Crowdfunding Campaign via Kickstarter or Non-Profit to finance the short film.

Each have their pros and cons. Ideally a hybrid would be great but because of the nature of the short film there might be conflicts of interest between patrons and investors.

On another note meeting with my art director to get the 4th watercolor illustration this week. Also have a major lead on an A-list actor to play the supporting role of David, which is the polar opposite of the lead character Enrique.
