Hi everyone, this is my first post here on DVXuser, i have pretty much just got my foot in the door in regards to making films/videos for a profit, i mainly do corporate films in the world of sport.

I am working pretty much exclusively for www.getspiked.co.uk - they have just launched an anti bullying campaign so i might get a chance to film something a little more creative, though i do enjoy what i do!.

Heres my first post over at exposure room. http://exposureroom.com/members/XSVpro/82e908dbda58422893787c8b1522c688/

Here it is over at youtube too,

The youtube channel is pretty much exclusively for SPIKED material now but over at exposure room i am going to feature what i want to show to private clients, the youtube video had to be released when it was but with exposure room i had the chance to go in and tidy up the audio and put a copyright in for myself ;)

Shot on a GH13 @ 720 50p and 1080 25p, max bit rate is 70, average is 50 via ptools though i notice the apple intermediate footage is sometimes 100 megs once uncompressed ?.

I used the panasonic 7-14mm for the stedicam work (rotating around the fighters and in the ring) i used the 14-140 kit lens for a few scenes out on the mat as well as the 30mm sigma f1.4 lens (4/3rds lens not micro 4/3rds) this was used for the interview scene as well.

I use a cine city shoulder rig and follow focus with matte box. Audio is recorded in cam with the panasonic mic and on the microtrak 2 via a lapel mic for interviews. Edited and colour corrected in Final Cut Express 4 and graded with magic quick bullet looks.

As you can see i pretty much shoot on a micro budget but thats how it is at the moment, hoping to get 2 or 3 gh2 bodies and redrock or zacuto evf for next year so i can do more in one day and get that sholuder support a little more comfortable. I had to film a 20 min thai fight once and my back was in so much pain once i finished!. Im also looking into a little film school next year as well as upgrading my software. This year has really been my starting point after a few years of making little clips here and there for friends

Anyway i have been rambling for ages now.

I appreciate the comments, good or bad as long as they are constructive ;)

Cheers.

Great

Great

Really good stuff. You create a great sense of the energy of the place via subtle effects, time remapping and solid editing. I am a bit jealous.

There are two things that are lacking to me - but you are lucky because these are relatively easy to fix as you go forward:

1. Audio balance - you tend to go heavy on music and light on interview audio sometimes. Just pay as much attention to audio as you do to video and you will be home free.
2. Text/titling - this stuff didn't match the quality of the rest of the piece - to be honest I almost turned it off upon seeing the titles. I think with some practice and emulation of a few other titling styles you will be set.

You are doing really good work in my book - but I'm no expert. I am in a parallel situation to yours - just trying to get started making videos for profit.

Hey thanks for the post, no your right, this is the first time i have mixed spoken audio with a video and i need to improve, is it best to just balance the sound so that things can be heard all the way through not chop and change?

Titles yeah i am no real fan of those, i need a little more work on that for sure, i would like to get a little more creative with titles, not in a home video way. I like the Art of combat titles in the cage, that for me is just very simple and clean. The boss of the mag is always pushing the confidence message of the mag and its a little over bearing sometimes, im not as passionate about the quotes as i am for the visual and sound, i think if the video is gives you confidence to go out and get fit then you dont need to make people watch and a read a message at the begining really.

Thanks for your critique, i will be working on that for sure! good luck with your own projects i would love to see them!
