Arri AMIRA... your hands-on experience wanted

This email came from Arri the other day. This is very interesting, especially the part about other cards not being recognised:

"While several manufacturers of storage media offer a wide range of CFAST 2.0 card models today, it is important to note that for the time being, AMIRA only supports SanDisk Extreme PRO CFast 2.0 SDCFSP-060G 60GB and SDCFSP-120G 120GB memory cards tested and supplied by ARRI.

SanDisk has announced new 64 GB and 128 GB CFast 2.0 cards SDCFSP-064G-A46 60GB and SDCFSP-128G-A46. For reliability reasons, please be aware that these new card models are not yet recognized nor supported by the AMIRA camera. Rest assured, ARRI is working closely with SanDisk and other manufacturers to implement support for several new models of CFAST cards.

An update to this technical bulletin can be expected in January 2015.
"

There is the choice of faster SanDisk now (64Gb and 128Gb) and also Lexar and Transcend with their 256Gb and more... But apparently I can't use them yet...

I used to think that the "manufacturer recognized/supported cards" lists were sort of BS. As long as you were using quality, name brand cards, all would be good, right? I found out the hard way a few years ago when I got my SD 664. I had always used Lexar Pro cards in my still cams and never had an issue, so I bought some for the 664 that weren't on "the list"(they were high speed cards). Whenever I tried to make an MP3 recording(I do an iso track WAV recording and MP3 for simple transcription purposes and as a back-up back-up), it sounded like crap. After talking to SD and swapping out to "approved/certified" cards, all was good. After that day, I have never used a card in a recording device that is not on that manufacturers list for that piece of equipment. What we do is just too important to risk the loss of data. I've even started doing dual-slot recording on my C300, when it's feasible. I wish every device gave you that option.

I know too many Canon C300 users who learned the hard way about cards as well.

Best to do it right, and invest in the highest quality approved media possible. It is your film negative, after all!

Same with card readers! Get the nice ones! It saves you from increased risk of data corruption. Had that happen to me in the past!

Has anybody made a custom case for Amira? This is ours...
Pelican case with custom cut interior, room for baseplates and rods, Amira body and VF (with mains adapter below the VF area), Travel charger, accessory slot (Hooodman sun shade for C300 fits neatly on Amira's display) and openings for 3 batteries...
