ARRI Alexa 65

[Razz16mm]

I'm still waiting for Red's 6x7 format panoramic camera.

I talked to an Arri rep yesterday at Cinec. They will only build about 40 of them and they can only be rented from Arri rental group. The sensor is made in israel, probably the same manufacturer as the red sensors?

Who'd be a focus-puller...

I will! =)

I can't think of why that would be the case, all else being equal.

Mostly a lower image magnification, and the resulting better mtf (micro-contrast) it gives.
Plus a higher dynamic range at daylight/high light levels due to larger pixel size and higher fill rate.

I found this here:

The sensor is slightly larger than a 65mm 5-perf film frame and is comprised of three Alexa sensors that are arranged vertically and seamlessly stitched together

Leaf used to stitch sensors (DALSA's?) together for their medium format digital backs & are based in Israel. Wonder if they're involved?

I had a little mental hiccup when I read that... ;-) From what I've read I don't think it's literally three sensors stitched together; I think they're just emphasizing that it's the same fab technology and cell design as the existing chips, so the same colour science etc. In other words the new cam will (according to this) have the same great image qualities as Alexa. I think in design terms it's like 3 copies of the photosite array, but it's a single new chip.
