Around the world in 20 days to shoot my first film

beautiful footage!

Wow.

Really encouraging for those who hope to use 35mm adapters for doc use.

On the trailer, I am just not clear who the man with the guitar is. Is he famous? Also, from a subjective point of view, you start with all of this amazing and exotic footage so it felt a little jarring to have the first person of focus to be some white guy - it makes you feel like it is going to be about him. You might consider letting the subjects of your doc speak first in the trailer.

Really exceptional camera work. Good luck on the long haul of editing.

thanks for the comments, much appreciated!

For the record, I am French, so excuse my poor English. I will try to be as clear as possible.

My goal was to tell the story of two orphans in a different way than a standard interview or narration documentary. I wanted to give them a reason why they should share their story.
So I though, let's get someone to write a musical piece that would reflect Philip's life and let's get a photographer that would do an exposition to document Durga's life.
This way, they will not be sharing to the viewers but to someone who will artistically share their story trough art.
So this film is about two Canadian artists (well known in Canada and Europe), a composer and a photographer who will connect with two orphans from Nepal and Liberia in order to tell their story through music and photography. So these two characters are as important as the orphans. It's all about the relationship and the bonding between them. I was extremely pleased with how they where able to connect so deeply in such a short time.
I feel it's going to be captivating to watch the evolution of the relationships, the stories, the photography and the song.

As for the audio, sometimes it was hard to find quiet locations, but I had a GREAT soundman with an amazing sound kit.
Overall the audio is very good and clear.
This teaser is not mixed.

Some really nice footage and Beautiful color but same critic as Oync for the guitar player.

Ça semble prometteur pour le film à venir. Bonne chance pour la suite !

Man, this is a really nice start and pic... The only thing I would say would be to cut out to some b-roll to show a passage of time with the VO going on underneath. NOt a lot mind y ou, but a couple of short 5-10 second montages.. since you are french you will understand that...

Great and original idea.... thanks for showing.

good

good

I thought the visuals where exceptional. the audio "not so much". Loved the idea, i would like to watch this sometime.

Great work. The musician kind of threw me off but overall it was nice. It's unfortunate that this couldn't have been shot on film. I'd love to see that city shot in high rez.

Thanks for the comments, I will make some changes and add a few scenes over the weekend and repost next week.

I would have love to shoot on film or on higher rez, but you got to start somewhere :)
BTW, this forum was an amazing source of info for me this summer when I was figuring out what I would be using to shoot this film. Thanks!
After our first day of shooting, I knew I had made a good choice by going with the combination HVX/M2/Zeiss. (For our budget )

I will also post some production stills

Cheers,

MArtin

There was a lot of compression in that video.

After your trailer recut couldja upload it as a bigger file?

BTW Did you use an external monitor for filming, or rely on the HVX's LCD?

Keep it up. You are raising the bar for production value in documentry. It's ridiculous that people think bad quality is ok for a doc.

Truth is, there have been documentaries with good stories and ok quality that have been very successful. But the idea that docs have inferior production quality is non-sense. Thank you for showing that good picture and good story are necessary for doc work. Thank you!

I like this new cut much, much better. Well done. I really hope this does well for you.

Is it Contax series, or Zeiss ZF you where using?

The photo was really suitable!

But how come you choose the documentary form of participate so much and not just let the Africans them self be interviewed? (You not showing yourself in the picture.)
I find it interesting which form we documentary makers chose. I am making an reflexive doc at the moment with my decease. So I would be glad to know how you came up to make an participate form?

Hey D_Odell,
Sorry for the slow reply, I was away last week.

I used the Zeiss ZF series.

I don't understand your second question, my english is not 100%.
Can you rephrase?
Thanks
