Aromatherapy Oils Promo Spot for AOL

Here's a recent project for AOL partner Beauty Sage-
Canon EF 24-70 2.8L and Tokina 11-16 2.8 with Zaza slider.

Nice! The only thing I noticed was the repeating of "21 drops"(get's on my nerves), I know it's a promo piece and repeating is effective/what the client pay's for. Otherwise nice job.

Thanks! I hear ya on product name repetition- be glad you didn't have to edit it!
But hey, you know the name of the product, it must've worked!

Looks good man! I really need to look into getting a few more zooms. It must make production so much faster haha.

Looks real good grove and there are some very nice shots using DOF etc. Bit more shallow DOF would have been nice in some scenes to bring attention to the presenter. Natural feel to the light works pretty well.

Can I respectfully suggest though.. the script and end result is kind of clinical (IMHO) and some "beauty shots" of the "essences and ingredients" , and where they come from, would have made a nice addition to add to the appeal of the natural products.

eg c.u and e.cu flowers, vegetable, leaves, fluids etc are always nice to shoot.

editing thought...It can sometimes really work to J or L cut scenes when you have synch sound talent. eg dont cut to or from them as they start or stop talking. (Bridge the cut by overlapping the dialogue)

I like the packaging shots (and I really like the clever packaging design)

Thanks for watching, erickson- yeah, zooms help, but I probably should have some primes.
Well, actually I have a 50mm FD, but rarely use it...

Good points Shooter- I wanted shallower DOF on the woman, but the space (though large) was limited in the distance I could separate her from the camera.
My tripod was against the table that held all the samples, and I was at wide open at 2.8, but I suppose a 1.2 or .95 would have thrown the BG out a bit more...

Light was 56K flos and hairlight.

The "script" was me interviewing her (sitting to the right side of the camera, which I hate), asking questions she'd prepared answers to, but then had a little difficulty with the answers (there's lots of audio editing going on- tightening answers, pauses, umms, using first half of one take with second half of second take, or third take... etc).

Good point on flower CUs. etc. I love detailed flavor shots like those, but I got everything I could (looong interview and all b roll) in 1 hour.
That's what was budgeted, and she was leaving as I broke down for the airport.

Food for thought (though not vegemite) on the J/L cuts.

Thanks for watching, Shooter.

Great spot and excellent use of the ZazaSlider!
I really likes the sliding shots through the 'hookah'. :)

Agree with everything shooter said AND thought you did a GREAT JOB!.

One other small point of note - not sure who did the AE component but when you have those products coming on screen and sliding left (1:18), add motion blur and it will make the slide left a touch more elegant.

Thanks Zaza! Where's my commission?

Thanks Noel- no AE for the products, I just moved them in Premiere, but you're right, a little blur would have been a nice touch.
