I have clients in that area. The Discovery Headquarters is very cool. Crazy situation with this gunmen. Apparently it ended when he was shot by police.

Personally, I want more backstory on this.
WTF was he so upset about? And what did Discovery have to do with it? Geez. Wanted Shark Week to be extended? They didn't recycle enough? Didn't air enough "little green men" episodes?
Plus I want footage of the terminal shot, but that's not gonna happen. Do what he did...........deserve the end result. Good shooting, Montgomery Co. Police SWAT.

Close, at the risk of this unintentionally turning political... he was an environmentalist nutcase who was "awakened" by Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" and had been waging a blog campaign demanding that Discovery do more programming about how horrible the human race was blah blah blah and was mad Discovery been ignoring him, and since they weren't doing enough that they were partially responsible for the Earth's destruction.
In other words... Shark Week was destroying the planet. Makes perfect sense :2vrolijk_08:

Wish I could personally thank the SWAT team member that ended this. Mr. Lee strapped on explosives, and threatened people with a gun to further his "cause". Also known as TERRORISM.
That particular tactic is short-sighted and ignorant. Sure, accomplish the act, but public opinion is never what you think it is. "Oh, they will worship me." BS to the tenth degree. One, you screwed up their day, 2. You pissed them off. 3. You proved your point could not be defended in a debate using logic. 4. You made more enemies than supporters.
The reason I asked was just more to understand his mindset. What he did crossed any and all political lines and he became a terrorist, not unlike any other terrorist targeting innocent people.

He'd have been better off with a GoPro. Much easier to get good shots while adjusting his explosive wardrobe.
It's sad that someone can feel so marginalized that they feel like they have no option but violence. I'm glad everyone is physically okay - I'm sure those hostages will have a rough time ahead of them.
It's getting more common every day Eric. I'm right on the Va/Nc line and it's very rural. There is rarely crime...until this year.
The Va cities have gone crazy. Stabbings have gotten particularly popular.
I think we can all agree that the tactics he used to communicate his message were tragic, but political debate isn't going to happen within the thread. Fair warning.
No politics in my post, just the unfortunate change in society. I suppose you could read politics in why fat women wear spandex bike shorts if you worked at it though.
