Armchair Commandos (TV PILOT all HVX)

Here's some promo clips from a pilot I produced in July of 2006. We shot it all on the HVX-200. We had 5 cameras, 2 P2 stores, and a 1TB firewire drive hooked up to a laptop running off a generator. We shot the whole thing in a relatively remote location for a very low budget. We also had 10 DV cams recording lipstick cams that were mounted to the helmets.

I also got to hang out of a helicopter trying to get usable footage, ha ha.

Anyway, the idea of the show was to get groups that were at odds, and had bad blood like: Red Sox fans vs. Yankees fans, Stippers vs. Housewives, Doctors vs. Lawyers, Skaters vs. Cops,... etc. etc, and get them to fight crazy battles with tanks, mortars, amphibious assaults etc, for prize money to be donated local children's charity.

We got to the top of a bunch of networks but no one really bit. We also went through a bunch of revisions, like with a history spin, or a sci fi spin.. whatever. We finally go to budget and final negotiations with a major producer when the Virgina Tech thing went down, after that he wanted nothing to do with "guns"... yet there's still like 3 CSI's and the Unit where people are depicted getting violently killed. Oh well.

For our pilot we did Punks vs. Rednecks. Both teams were funny as hell. We shot this in a day and a half. Hope y'all enjoy.

I tried to make it as "cinematic" as possible so we shot at 24fps,.. all the action scenes at 1/500th and all others at 1/48th. I hate reality TV,.. it hurt to make this,.. but I tried to make it cool.

"The Game" is probably the most entertaining clip.

It was pretty cool - I watch 'the game' clip. Very well done. My one note is that you only seemed to be showing one team....either that or i got the locations mixed up. The aerial shots seemed to revolve only around the redneck team and stuff.

War, war, war, isn't it enough true war. "after that he wanted nothing to do with "guns"... " Well done though.

That was cool as hell! I loved the way you used graphics similar to video games to keep the audience informed.

The mix of first person and outside cameras was great too.

That would be great if you had battles in a city. Or even more woodsy locations. (more cover)

Well done,

Brian
