I was bidding on a used 416 on ebay and I was getting a great price ($500). Then with 30 seconds left someone came in and outbid me. Because they bid so late the action closed before I could counter bid. I was literally seconds away!!

ARGHH! Ebay should really eliminate this bid at the last moment trick.

Much as I dislike certain aspects of ebay, their bidding process is fine IMHO. If you don't want to get outbid at the last moment put your max bid in before that. You only have to pay as high as someone else bids against you so as long as those last minute bids are lower then your maximum you still win the auction. If they are higher then your maximum then you wouldn't have wanted to pay that much anyways.

I have seen those last minute frenzies and I think people get caught up in the competition of it and end up spending more then they would have if they sat back and thought for a moment.

Only downside is ebayers who create second accounts and then bid on their own auctions to jack the price up. But someone will always figure a way to cheat around the rules no matter how many roadblocks you set up
