I shot a wedding this past weekend, and the guy hired me and my other shooter. Then at the last minute he wanted to ADD another shooter for interviews and whatver else, but he said he already had a camera we could use for that.

Sounds fine, I called up another shooter and he was handed a Sony HDV camera when he arrived.

I didn't even notice what he was shooting on most of the night, and I also didn't check to see what format he was in.

I'm attempting to log tapes in my office from my crappy mini DV cam, and I get stuck when I try and throw in the tape shot off of the Sony.

I'm assuming he was in HDV mode, as neither of my cams can read the footage. I get one still frame of footage in the LCD's...

Do I need to get a hold of the Sony camera to capture? what are my other options? rent a deck for a day? which one would read it?

The client didn't pay for the third camera during the ceremony, but I had my guy shoot it anyway (he was already there, so why not). Technically I don't have to include the footage, but it seems like it'd be kind of a waste to not.

I want to convert it to regular DV, but I need a way to capture it first... any ideas?

All the Sony HDV cameras and decks will internally downconvert to DV for their firewire port (it's a menu option) - You'll probabaly need one of these Sony HDV players, set it to output regular (downconverted) DV in "squeeze" mode, and capture it as regular DV into your NLE.
