Hi,

I'm interested in how many are PAL and how many are NTSC users on this forum. Actually you could just answer the question even if you're not using GH1 :)

Wanted a PAL but got the NTSC for a better deal, figured I could live with the 24p pulldown removal. But hopefully that's not gonna matter with the firmware hack

I'm interested in this partly because I believe the forum is based in US, am I right? I get the feeling that there's quite a lot of users from PAL countries visiting as well.

I have the Japanese version... (with Japanese menu/interface which I can't read) but live in PAL land.

Being in the UK I have a "PAL" version of the GH1. I too have noticed the amount of postings that really only seem to relate to the USA and always wondered why in the digital age (we don't have PAL or NTSC anymore as they were analogue tx standards) anyone who wanted to get close to 24fps didn't automatically go for the PAL model as you don't have any pulldown to worry about, 25fps is a full HD digital standard playable on Digital screens and players the world over and if you want to print to film you just slow the footage down by 4%. Also the whole "Apple" thing seems to be a US thing too as I know of no-one with a mac these days, with all video editing now handled by PC's and programmes like AVID - or in our case with AVCHD - EDIUS NEO.

NTSC. Was a rip-off trying to buy the GH1 here in Australia. I shoot 720p anyway so don't have to worry about pulldown. I rather save $1500 then convenience of no pulldown.

Both, thanks to tester13's new hack! We shoot most of our work in Israel, which is a PAL country, but here a PAL version costs over $2,000 US.

The main difference - aside from the extra step of removing pulldown in 1080 - is the flicker. Shooting at 1/60 produces noticeable flicker under a majority of the indoor lighting here. This is not a huge issue in 1080 24p, cause 1/50 takes care of the issue, however shooting in 720P at 1/50 drops the camera out of 720P 60P into a hacked up form of 30P.

In any case, the I have tested the new hack and it works perfectly. Therefore, any one in PAL Land looking for a 2nd camera would so well to order from the US and save a few hundred bucks (assuming you can find a way to get the camera back home safely).

Also, tester13's hack completey removes EU 30 minute limit.

Does Edius neo handle pal 1080p footage correctly? It royally screws up 1080p 24p ntsc footage cause it can't figure out the pulldown.
