Are you sure you wanna do this??

Where is the craziest, strangest, riskiest place you have taken, put or used your camera? What was the shot for?

Let's try (I know) to keep this as clean as possible, please.

I took mine on a race track while riding on the back of the instructor's bike as he "took it easy" at a mere 150+ mph. I couldn't see what I was shooting. Just winged it. Footage came out great.

a digital (fortunatelly not mine) camera on a glider's wing, and we used only some glue... :). the photo is extremly nice as the plane is turning to the ground and the pilots are smilying in to the camera

External car mount (with one suction cup) to the front hood of a Porsche. Said Porsche then proceeded to accelerate with all speed, and then brake fairly hard.

Everything turned out fine, though I suffered visions of my beloved DVX being flung across asphalt at 90 MPH.

This thread is great.

I didn't have a crane but needed an overhead shot of a ballet dancer. I stood on a very tall platform and slid my tripod over some hanging lights, with the camera pointing down towards the ballet dancer. I held on to the legs for dear life.

The light could have very easily snapped off the ceiling, causing me, the camera, the tripod, the light and everytjhing else to KILL the dancer. It was idiotic but I was desperate.

The one-liners on this forum (within context of the thread) are the funniest things I hear all day.

Good thread. I wish I could come up with something. The DVX hasn't been through anything more dangerous then film-students running the cam underslung on a V8... which I thought was pretty dangerous at the time. I put my cam on a 7' monopod and use it like a boompole... over anything. I also ran this cam on a cable slide. (no big deal)

All the cams before this one have been dangercams though. A friend of mine lived on a lake and I was a climber so I found a suitable tree and put up the most insane rope swing you ever saw. Well out in the water was a big tree with the top cut level so you could stand on it... about 8' off the water. It was the perfect vantage point for filming... and the only way to get to it was to JUMP from a rock face and then have my buddy THROW me the cam. We got a lot of good shots from that tree.

*cringes at the vision of a camera hurtling, end over end, in a large arc 10 feet over the water to someone blanaced on top of a stump, hands open ready to catch it*

Well, not the camera itself, but the two most stupid things I've ever done that endangered talent (both of these almost 15 years ago, so hopefully I've learned)...

1.) Extremely heavy softbox over a group of five senor citizen actors at a dining table. Softbox was at the extreme weight limit of the two stands holding it. When the take was done and the actors cleared out, I'm pulling the camera and I hear something... one end of the softbox had dropped a foot... later that same shoot one of the seniors puked over my shoes. Karma payback, I guess.

2.) Sci-Fi themed shoot for promo film for Amiga DSS-8 digitizer. Wicked hot chick in tight costume and high heels, trying to walk between two propane torches lining her path on a fog-juice slickened studio floor. She slips a bit then recovers and continues on. I suddenly realize her hair is one solid mass of hair spray, and she could have went up like Michael Jackson shooting that Pepsi commercial!

Wicked hot chicks are awsome.

Probly the most dangerous camera rig I have done with the DVX is this ghetto bike handlebar clamp thing I had one time. Very crappy, made in about 15 minutes out of some scrap aluminum. I *did* have some rope tied onto the camera as a "safety line" but it probly wouldn't have worked. The second most dangerous thing I have done to my cam would probably be using TDK tapes in it....

i brought my camera to the red light district but did not use it, it probably would have been smashed. i had it becuase we were all walking around amsterdam and i had my camera bag with my elura and then we turned a corner and were at the red light district so i put it away and we walked around the red light district. scary scary place.

with my old vx1000. i was following a skateboarder down this huge hill in San Francisco using a fisheye lens. (if you have been to sf you know how big the hills are and how steep) . it was freaky enough to skate down it, but i went down it a few times and got used to it and figured out where he was going exactly.

when i went down with the camera in hand and him in front there was a car that blew a stop sign right in front of us. the footage is insane.

So you're going to make a statement like that and not show us?

Where's the smiley that goes "ttthhhhppppptt!"

In the middle of Kabul, Afghanistan by myself. On a shoulder mount. With a hard mic windscreen on the front, looking very much like an RPG.

Risky Bidness.

One time I was in the car, my friend was driving, and I was holding my XL2 out my window by the top rail to get both of us in the shot.

The shot didn't turn out, haha.
