Hey guys,

My name is Ryan and I'm an Accessory Whore. I've come to grips with my addiction and hey, its better than drugs or gambling right? :beer: Anyway, just wanted to see how many of you other guys are in the same boat as me. Spending every last dime of (semi) disposable income on accessories. Really I just want to see who's worse than me :evil: Acceptance is the first step to recovery....

My stuff:

DVX100a (Ok, not an accessory, but its the root of my problem)
Sachtler DV 2/II Tripod (I NEED it!:))
Petrol Rain Slicker
JVC TM910SU 9' color monitor
Petrol Monitor Soft Bag
AT 897 Shotgun Mic
Gitzo Boom Pole

Other slightly unneccessary accessories I have:

Cinetactics Matteblox (Beats shellin' out for a Chrosziel for my purposes)
DVRig Pro (At least its useful)
Fly Focus (Eh, I'm not convinced yet...it works, but how long will it last?)
Stickypod ProPak (On its way)

What I want and am fighting the urge to get:

Guerilla35 (Well at least I CAN'T get this yet:))
Kessler 8ft. Crane
Tiffen Special Effects Filter Kit (Promist, ND Grad, Enhancing, Gold FX1 Diffusion)

What no HVX on your want list? You must only be in stage 1 of the disease, don't worry, there will always be something that you can lust after.

Man a 9 foot color monitor, can't imagine how big your grip truck must be!

Damn I only have a 19" Panasonic BT-M1950Y, now I gotta start saving up for something much bigger as I all of the sudden feel really inadequate.

Haha, damn you got me khmuse. Ok, its only a 9" monitor. :) And yes, I suppose I do want an HVX, but I might actually be able to afford all that other **** sometime in the next year. An HVX, not so much.

Hey Chuck, you're not helping dammit. I'm drooling! BTW, what the hell is that? A Panavision HD camera? I didn't even know they made them. Goddamn, its gorgeous. Screw an HVX, I want that. GO BIG OR GO HOME!

But you have to be careful not to turn this into a mere consumer pursuit (as in collecting high-end gear). Been trying to keep my purchases to items I need rather than simply want - in other words, if the script needs a crane shot, then perhaps I might get a crane. Otherwise, I would rather rewrite or rent, and not get a crane just because. I think they have us thinking backwards on purpose - keeps them rich while keeping us poor!

Okay, okay, I admit, I bought the Chrosziel mattebox for looks alone...
 
Good attitude! Yes Panavision has HD camera's its a glorified F900 but you'll have to rent it.

Are you a pilot?

OK, good I was getting some serious monitor envy there for a few moment.

I'm accessory whore, too. I like to buy lots and lots of batteries. And lots and lots of chargers. Even if I don't need them. I keep buying them. I own a fortune in chargers. Just bought a $1,500 Anton Bauer charger--and I don't even own any bricks! Can't stop. Still never bought a matte box--spending $3K on a matte box to keep the light off a $3,500 camera just never made any sense to me (I just TAPE my ND filers to the lens hood).

Cool pics guys. I didn't expect to see pictures of rigs in this thread, but I like it. Keep em comin'. Chuck, I'm not a pilot, but they pay me to fly around in a helicopter and take video. They're not helping either, more money to piss away. Oh well.:)
 
In all honesty, that's not my rig. We got to hang out on the Lost set for two days. Recently we were supposed to go again for another Lost shoot but I couldn't make it that time.

Speaking of accessories and matteboxes, you guys familiar with Karl Horn and Cinetech? They make some high-end, extremely durable follow-focus, shoulder rig, and mattebox equipment. Recently they sent out promotional DVDs showcasing some of their accessories. DO NOT ASK to see it! Makes you want to buy their full rigs. The DVD I received showed their XL2 gear, follow-focus, and full-size swing-away mattebox. Very nice stuff

(Okay, if you want to see if they'll mail you a DVD, tell them Oz from Hawaii recommended you...)
 
Is this the room for Access-A-Non? My name is Dallas, and I'm married to an AW. Sometimes I get upset at the amount of accessories I see laying around, but I have to admit that I benefit from my AWH's addiction. When he runs out of things to buy for himself, he buys for me. I have camera gear out the wazoo, but if you asked me to tell you which kind, I'm all "hamanaa, hamanaa, hamanaaa" Ya know? Anyone else have this problem?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
 
A swing away matte box would be nice, but heavy. I like my rig: DVX-A, Vocas matte box, Chrosziel FF, Cartoni tripod. Some filters. Powerbook and Mac Mini. Not overkill for a young guy.
 
I don't have many accessories. But I am addicted to speed. Do I get half credit? :smile:

You'll have to excuse the lame polaroid thing, it was an idea I had for a website... it didn't pan out.
