Hi, I'm sorry for this question.

You probably know about the blackmagic pocket camera just announced at NAB.
Best in class video but it doesn't do stills.

Yes, I'd like to buy it but it is too much expensive for my pocket.;)
I can buy a compact photo camera with a good HD video but I don't know them. Can you give me some suggestions please?
Thanks

I thank you for yur suggestion but before I'd like to know news from people are using HD camcorder like Sony nx5u (now I'm usig it). How much is far its video quality? Nobody have told me how much good is th video quality of these photo cameras compared to a good HD camcorder. I'd like to listen something about this question please. If the video quality of them is lower than Sony nx5u I will buy a Sony hdr-cx730.
thanks

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "quality".
There are things that an HD camcorder will do better than a still cam, and vice versa.
For example, your Sony nx5u has a 1/3" sensor. The common era DSLRs (or mirrorless equivalents) all have larger chips which will capture more light and give a much more cinematic DOF than that will. Also with interchangeable lenses, you will be able to attain visuals not possible with a standard fixed-lens camcorder. While some of the popular HDSLRs deliver a slightly softer-than-1080 picture (looking at you, Canon!), others such as the Panasonic GH2 have been pushed to sharpness beyond cameras that cost several times as much.

But, the larger camcorders use codecs that are higher quality and record more color definition (most of the smaller cameras are 4:2:0). But that hasn't stopped little cameras from being used on big budget movie sets and TV shows, so I'd say that's subjective. They each have their strengths.

I thank you for your interesting reply. Now what I'd like to knos is: can a photocamera like a RT100 give more gradation of colors, deep colours and higher definition than a Sony nx5u? I know photocameras suffer of decimation. Thanks again one.

The Panasonic LX7 pocket camera shoots great 1080 HD at 30 and 60 fps, and 720 HD at 30, 60, 120 fps.

Combined with a zoom lens that is FF equivalent to 24-90 f/1.4 - f/2.3, this camera can shoot just about anything.

I thank you for your reply but ... I'm sorry, you have nor answered to my question. ;)

Could it? Yes.
Does it? I don't know. I don't have enough first hand experience with either of those specific models to tell you what strengths one has over the other. But it definitely can, as I see smaller cameras kick the pants off of bigger ones all the time.

...Perhaps you need to be more specific?

You state you are looking for a compact camera that shoots video like a Sony NX5U, but don't explain the features that you are actually looking for.

So are you looking for an ENG camera? Are you looking for a small consumer video camera? Or are you looking for a compact photo camera that shoots decent video?

What's your idea of compact? What specific features are you after?

I'm sorry, you are right. No matter features, I like to get a photo camera with good image quality, better than Sony NX5U.
I like a photo camera that makes video but with better image quality of Sony NX5U above all in daylight. Smaller is better, max a bridge camera. For the price I don't like to spend a lot of money. I can spend around 500 euro, max 600 euro.
But if you tell me there isn't any photo camera that can make video better than my Sony NX5U videocamera, no problem. I will not buy any photo camera anymore.
But I'd like to know if you know and use videocameras too.
thanks

Although the BMD Pocket looks to be a fantastic pocket camera on a budget, the cost of data storage is very high. Maybe 5x more storage per hour over conventional compression. Just another consideration when evaluating over all costs that will have to be addressed sooner or later.
I will most likely get a BMC pocket when they are available, but I will also have to adjust my shooting much like going back to 16mm film days where you had to limit shooting to takes that were well thought out. Now I've gotten used to letting the camera roll and having to screen miles of shots that I would have been better off not shooting in the first place. Perhaps this is a good thing and will save something else even more valuable in the end, time.

As for you FoxAdriano, there are tons of low budget "high enough" quality cameras for under 600 euros.
Just go to a camera dealer with your own SD card, pick up all the different camera and shoot some test footage. Then take the card home as see for yourself. No matter how many opinions you get here, you will have to see what works for you, that's where you will find the answers you are looking for.

8 years ago I started out shooting with a Panasonic DVX100 video camera, which I sold and upgraded to a Panasonic HMC150 video camera about 4 years ago. Then about 2.5 years ago, I bought a Canon 60D DSLR which I owned for about 4 months. ( great photo camera, but I was not happy with the video it shot ) Then about 2.2 years ago I bought a Panasonic GH2 DSLR. And finally last December I bought a Panasonic GH3 DLSR. Today I shoot about 90 percent of my work with the GH2/GH3 DLSR cameras, and about 10 percent with my Panasonic HMC150 video camera. And I also own the tiny Panasonic LX7 pocket still photo camera that shoots great video for a small pocket camera.

As far as shooting better image quality than the Sony NX5U camera, you will have to be a little more specific because you are talking about a dedicated ENG video camera, which has deep DOF because of the small 1/3 inch sensors and a fast parfocal zoom lens. Large sensor cameras produce a very different looking image, that many of us prefer over the small chip ENG cameras, but they are generally much harder to use. For me the extra work is worth it because I prefer the color, detail, and DOF of a large sensor camera.

I need to know;
1) Which camera can make better image quality abou definition and deep colours. I know photocameras suffer of decimations and I think it is impossible to get an image better than a Sony NX5U videocamera.
2) No matter about features of photocameras and the differences between a gig and smaller sensor. I only like to consider the image quality and stop!
3) When and if you will tell me there are some photocameras can compete with Sony NX5U videocamera, I will take into consideration the features.
4) I repeat, in daily light which make better image quality between a Sony NX5U videocamera and a photocamera (priced about 500-600 euro)?
If you will tell me it is impossible to get a good image like a Sony NX5U videocamera I will not buy anymore the photocamera but I'm afraid you know very fine photocameras but not videocameras.
I thank you

I would say step back and look at what you are asking FoxA. You want to pay 600 euros for a camera with better video than a 2800 euro camera. Pretty obvious that is not going to happen. "Better" video is different for every person.
