well i have few things couple things
first of all i just found out that theres a new cinescreen 2 that suppose to be better , i want it to upgrade ( just the glass ) but its been removed if you want to upgrade you have to buy that whole package around 500$ .. well i should be giving the same opportunity i bought it in 2006 and nobody emailed me to know theres an upgrade for limited time or there upgrade of anything

and then i was looking at the videos of upgrades are they making mistakes on purpose or its just me i dont understand, if you look at the first video they say the frosted side up and the shiny down
http://vimeo.com/1871658

then on this one they say the opposite the shiny up and the frosted down
http://vimeo.com/3181596

are they doing this on purpose so the m2 encore will look better the the regular m2 ?
if you have any input please let me know

Cinescreen II has been out since November/December 2008. Since they don't manufacture the m2 design anymore (m2e mount is different for the cinescreen) then I can only speculate that they ran out of the old single center mount cinescreen II.

www.start.redrockmicro.com has been the source for all the new how-to's.

if they sale only for people who already own a m2 , by providing a serial number as they mentioned , they should have 1 for everyM2 ,

k take your time and watch the videos . for cinescreen upgrade it should be the same glass for both , the glass has 2 sides , frosted , and shiny , but in the video tuto it mention 2 diferent things for thr same glass

i spent good amount of money when it came out (well $1144 that i paid in 2006 for what i made its a lot) , the least they could of done , email the customers that made redrockmicro who they are for the upgrades and products ..there customer service havent change a bit , they took forever on everything

The tutorials you show are for two seperate items. One is for the m2 and the second for the m2e. The cinescreen II upgrade for the m2 was out for a while as an upgrade, sorry to hear you didn't get a chance to pick one up. Maybe theres one in the marketplace. Best wishes.

hey body the videos is for the m2 encore and it has cinesscreen II , and the regular upgrade its for the cinescreen 2 , so both tuto are for the cinescreen 2 , corect me if im wrong , are you looking at something else , theres only 2 kind of screens old one and new one , and the tutorials are both for the new one , no matter how many holes that have , and as i said before .... why dont you take your time and look , he removes the old one , he put the new one (cinescreen II)and he said the frosted side up , and the encore upgrade when he put the cinescreen II they write on the screen shining side up , i looked at it few times and i still dont get it

and for the upgrade its the redrocks fault not to inform the customers well , they wont get me with 545 $ i rather buy cinevate i seing great result with the brevis with good customer care , expl : if you check the websit http://www.cinevate.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=78 , they have an upgrade for the brevis , the sking the customer to send the old one for an upgrade , unlike redrock they want to sell tha whole unit for the upgrade , its not rocket science its a glass that spins with a litlle motor just like a cd player and should be the same result in the encore or the regular m2 as long they have the same glass

Have you called Redrock or posted in their forum with your question?

They might still have what you want, and in fact I just browsed around redrocks store and they do sell a piece of ground glass...I'm not sure if it's the same material as the cinescreen II, or if it connects in the same way, but it MIGHT.

call them : 888-214-3903

OR

Ask in their forum : http://www.redrockmicro.com/forum/index.php

If you happen to not be able to upgrade the screen I would suggest upgrading your M2 to an M2e....I've seen the side by side footage, and it seems worth it.

As for keeping abreast of redrock news, go to their website http://www.redrockmicro.com/ and in the left column there is a place where you can type in your E-mail address and sign up for their newsletter.

The threaded collet in the middle of the motor looks like a model plane propeller hub. It may be that they changed the design to a custom hub, and as someone mentioned, they could have run out of the single hole disks....

I should also point out one thing...if you're unsure which direction looks better for the cinescreen, then open up your M2, flip it around, and do some test footage...the exact footage should be replicated with it on the other way.

No one ever said you couldn't experiment....and if you happen to get results that you like better in the end, then who's to say which direction is which

nick your right , but if you selling a product and you missleading your customers thats bad , they doing the research , we paying the money so we wont waist time and get the best result , but i guess i have to do what you said , after all maybe ill have change of heart after all the problems with the redrock , i wont pay 545 DOLLARS for upgrade , i saw amazing footage from brevis 635 DOL and the sgblade little more money but very good too

The M2 Encore IS better than the old M2
hey macaholic wassup , i was talking about the upgrade , in the regular m2 ( video) when you upgrade, the redrock ask you to put the cinescreen 2, frosted side up , but when you get the m2 encore package still the same screen (cinescreen2) just diferent type of holes , they ask you to put the shiny side up , so are they doing on purpose or just accident ? so whats up , shiny or frosted ?????

im not sure about about the insides of the M2 but heres my take.

The recent accepted "norm" for mounting GG screens for the spinning type is frosted side SHOULD face the 35mm lens the shiny side faces your camcorder.

I think that the original m2's motor is mounted on the rear side of the box thus you should mount the gg frosted side up.

MAYBE on the m2E the motor is attached to the front side of the casing thus you mount the GG frosted side down (regardless if its I ot II version).

I dont have the M2E but I have made 3 adapters and one has the redrock groundglass which they sell with their DIY instruction kit.

All my adapters have the frosted side facing the 35mm lens. My motor configurations are different. on one case I mount the motor on the front and on another i mount it on the rear side. Thus I have flipped gg sides for the different configurations.

Hope this helps.

Upgrades.

Upgrades.

I bought an original M2 adapter last year and started shooting a project with it and found it be really awesome to use. One thing that sucked about it was the tremendous light loss I suffered. Luckily two weeks into my 10 week shoot RR released the Cinescreen II and I hopped right on it.

The upgrade was a total pain in the ass because I had to collimate the screen through a very tedious process, but in the end I gained 1.5 stops of sensitivity. When the new M2 Encore Flip adapter was released I bought that as well.

Recently I did a handheld video shoot with my slightly upgraded M2 and in the middle of the shoot the stupid GG slipped slightly and through off my infinity focus. I experienced a bunch of soft focus and I was not happy.

After the shoot I decided that I wanted to upgrade or change adapters. After mulling over the various options it was quite clear to me that the cheapest solution was to upgrade my original M2 to the M2E. For $545 and being broke it was a no brainer.

I was received my upgrade kit on Friday and that night I watched the online vids and performed the upgrade. Immediately I noticed that the ground glass for the new adapter was oriented reverse of the original. Suddenly they went from having the frosted side facing the 35mm lens to having it face the camera instead. I found this odd, but not only did the online vids make a point of this they also sent a little card with the same information with the upgrade kit. So I decided they must know what they are doing so I did it the exact way I was instructed.

The next day I set up my charts and scopes and went to work calibrating the setup. Lens collimation was stupid simple and the picture was edge2edge sharp. I was very happy with the upgrade and I can't wait to shoot with it this weekend.

cowofevil,

Then this must be redrock's new way of doing it.

Thanks for clarifying that.

there was actually no proven benefit from several tests I did and others did as well as to which way the GG should face.

i dont know why redrock didnt clarify that , they should inform everyone how to put the GG , and send a card to only the people who paid for the full upgrade , and not for the customers who paid for the glass only , still the same gg and spining with motor , well thanks cowofevil for the input

Dude the M2 and the M2e are two different products, different parts, different methods. Yes, you can upgrade to the M2e from the M2. But the product is dfferent. You seem like you expect performance out of a 2009 Camaro from a 1989 Camaro.

The Cinefuse II for M2 and the Cinefuse II for M2e are two totaly different parts. Yes the glass can be exactly the same, but since the method they are used, and the method they are mounted, they are different.

With the Cinefuse II M2e, they told the customers that you mount the glass different. You didn't get the info because you would have to buy the M2e update, in your case, to do that.

Companies obviously are going discontinue selling products. It is the nature of the business. You can't expect them to continue supporting an inferior product when they have already made an replacement for it. Just get the M2e upgrade and then you wouldn't have to worry.

but if i sell you nice rims for your camaro , i should tell you the proper way how to set your wheels to get good performance , we are out of topic here
what you talking about , theres no diference between both screen just the wholes ... and why should the be used diferent ,same concept nothing changed in the m2e just the spining motor instead 9v now it uses 3v recheargeable battery ... and allways same glass same concept , the lens project on the spining glass the camera recorf of the glass ...duh its not science fiction we talking about , if i pay 125 $ they wont include the paper to tell me what side is up , and if i pay 545 $ for the same glass , just a new body same measures then they will inform me the right way with a paper t , and i allready spent good amount of money with this guys , ummm if you think thats right , you should think it over
yeah if the dicontinues to sell the product , stop all the upgrades , sell only the complte unit
if i have a c1979 camaro i could buy any part i want to put in it as long it fits new or old i

if i pay 125 $ they wont include the paper to tell me what side is up , and if i pay 545 $ for the same glass , just a new body same measures then they will inform me the right way with a paper

I don't understand what the problem is? The glass mounts differently in the new version vs. the old version. It's not a conspiracy. If they still sell the screen for the normal M2, then buy it and be done with it. Follow the video that explains how to install the screen in the M2 and call it a day. Have you even tried to contact contacted Red Rock to see if they still sell the screen upgrades for the original M2?

Hi guys,

Just to clarify, the cinescreen does mount differently in the Encore versus the original M2. They are completely different adapters internally.

As always, follow the instructions outlined in the documentation or setup tutorials for your product and if you are not clear on something please feel free to contact us.

That's not true actually. the screen itself, the diameter is much bigger on the Encore, as well as the holes as you state. The screen in the Encore is far superior screen than the Cinescreen II.
i dont know why redrock didnt clarify that , they should inform everyone how to put the GG

they do, thats what the video's were for
