Are the codecs in the AF-100 and the HMC150 the same?

I just bought an AF100 which I love. I'm thinking about a second camera. I can't afford a second AF100 right now, and I'm not sure I want a second camera with a shallow depth of field. With that said, I've never read anything about the HMC150 until today. It looks to me like it has the same processing and codec as the AF100, except that it has three CCD 1/3" imagers and a fixed lens.
Am I correct in this?

If that is the case, wouldn't the HMC150 be a good companion to the AF100 as far as overall look and media?

Yes, the HMC150 would be a fairly ideal companion, if you need a deep-DOF fixed-lens camera with servo zoom and autofocus and all that. It has all the same menu structures (well, almost the same, there are of course some differences) and all the buttons and switches will be in familiar places, it has similar colorimetry so you can match them up pretty well in multicam shooting situations, and it does have the same AVCCAM PH mode as the AF100 does. There is one small difference in the recording format, which is that the AF100 has both LPCM and AC3 audio, whereas the HMC150 only has AC3 audio (no LPCM option) but other than that... yes, you would probably find them quite compatible.

Well I know this is slightly off from what the OP asked about in terms of codec, but I just want to say that I think the HMC150 is a great great camera. Some people have mentioned that its getting a little long in the tooth, and maybe so, but it's still a fabulous camera. I don't think there is another camera out there in the price range that can touch it. It can be had for less than 2800 bucks...and for what all you get in that camera, I think its a steal.

And again, while some people may think it's showing some age, I like it so much I am just about to buy another one. I have looked at other cameras, but dang its just so cheap for what all you get. I mean something like the Sony EX1R or Canon XF300 are MORE than TWICE the price. And in the hands of a skilled user, I have seen footage from it that I don't think would have looked any better if it had been shot on an EX1R or XF300.

Anyway, just my two cents...given what it costs, I think the HMC150 is still in its prime.

Regards,

G.
