are tape brands an issue with playback?

Hi all,

I'm well aware of the dangers of mixing tape brands while recording. If I mix brands just for playback, do I still risk mucking up the record heads?

Well, yeah. You're still running the tape through the mechanism. There's not much mechanical difference between recording and playback.
