Are DSLRs for video dead?

Yeah, its more expensive, but I would rather not mess with hacks just to enhance a camera. I would NEVER bring a hacked camera to a shoot (that's probably just me, however)

I have used the GH2, hacked, on numerous PAID shoots...in fact, just got the check in today for one. There's no way I'd bring the GH2 to a professional shoot unhacked.

But then I did my homework. The only possible problem is if you cheap out on SD cards (I didn't). Sedna is pretty reliable in my experience, and I've heard great things about Flowmotion as well. Most of the unreliable shooting situations involve 60i/720p60 and using ETC mode with Lumix lenses. I primarily used manual Nikkors, mostly shoot 1080p24, and rarely utilize ETC mode (but I have for run 'n gun for a large tech corporation and it worked fine).

Well, i know it's pretty reliable, but I just don't feel comfortable using hacked cameras... Oh well.

As Gary stated, you do your homework and the properly patched GH2 works like any other video camera. I've shot 100+ hours with my patched GH2, and often use it for paid jobs. I know the limits of the camera fairly well, so I've never had any real issues during a shoot. ( LPowell's FlowMotion ver 2.02 patch for the GH2 seems extremely stable and delivers excellent overall image quality )

And why not? Doesn't the gh3 do everything the gh2 does except better? Yeah, its more expensive, but I would rather not mess with hacks just to enhance a camera.

I also wouldn't mess with a hacked camera, but we have yet to see if the GH-3 produces better quality. There is a question if the 72mb/s all i will actually be better than 100mb/s GOP. I know All-i is better but takes more processing power. We won't know till it's out. The GH-3 isn't cheap compared to BMC or Canon APS-c. I calculate it would cost me $2,500 for the body and a 12-35 f2.8 lens. For that money I could sell my 60D and keep the Tokina 11-16 for the BMC. The BMC I can get rental money for, the GH-3 maybe not.

Just as a side question,

Are there any good variable ND filters that will not vignette on wide angle (30mm or wider on full frame)
Because i really like the heliopan and singh ray but they're both fat as hell and vignette below 30+mm.

This one looks good and thin http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/824693-REG/Kenko_KNDX77_77mm_Variable_NDX_Neutral.html
Anyone had any experience with the kenko? Any recommendations for a good quality vari ND (no LCW, genus, fader) that will at least be thin enough for 28mm on FF?
