Archiving Footage

On my current gig I'm going through hundreds of hours of footage shot on SVHS, Hi-8, and mini-dv, and each format has lots of problems with dropouts and timecode errors. My understanding is that tape erodes over time, and my practical experience now tells me that valuable footage needs to be saved some other way. So, what is the best way to do it? Is it possible to burn dvds which save all the information from our mini-dv tapes, and if so what's the procedure? If not, what is the solution? ???

Re: Archiving Footage

Informations last longer on mini dv tape than dvd.
Don't remember exactly but dvd last about 15 to 20 years and mini dv are suppose to last over 25 years.
