Archival of digital content on Gold DVD

Questions regarding the reliable long term archival of digital content like photos, music, and movies on gold DVD.
------------------
Gold DVDs are said to last 100 years.
I don't know how long data can remain stored for retrieval on a standard pressed DVD, but it's pretty safe to assume it isn't as long as gold right?
Also, is a gold DVD simply going to last because of its properties, meaning I don't have to have it pressed onto a gold disc, I can simply burn the information at home onto the gold disc and it should last 100 years?

Thanks

Sure,"Golden" DVD-s last longer. But after 50 years would be hard to find any DVD player. VHS is not too old system, but nearly forgotten.
Imagine, your grandchildren will find one...what an interesting shiny plate, but what for, they'll say..
My point is, ordinary "silver" discs are good enough if not very cheap ones. After 10 years you have to re-record your videos (or photos, music) to HDDVD or BluRay and then after another 10 years to "whatever media"...
This is my opinion of course.

Thats why everything should be made to be backwards compatible. I belive BluRay and HDDVD are backwards compatible with DVD. VHS has been around for about how long? 30 years? So I don't see why you wouldn't be able to watch a DVD in 50 years... although technology does develop quickly now, but I imagine it to be too much cost for people to keep switching to new systems.. which is why I think backwards compatibility would be a big thing. So yeah, copy on gold all you want... but in the end. if it works out great. and if not. It wasn't my money! :)
