For $279 this is looking pretty good. Loaded with useful tools and really light weight. I just got this in today and hooked it up to my a7s II. Looks pretty good. Very sharp. Will be good for focusing. I need to calibrate it to see how accurate I can get it. Pretty good out of the box but the blue channel was a little high. Brought it down and looks much better. Good news is can be calibrated and is firmware updatable. If I can't calibrate it it's still very useful for exposer and focusing. Great with jibs/gimbals and such. It's a kit too and comes with pretty much all you need to get to shooting with it. Cant seem to upload a picture for some reason.
Full review coming after Christmas.

On Aputure website the specs says that the brightness is 450cd/m2. How useful is it outdoors under bright, cloudless daylight?

This is a new product that isn't stocked yet in the US. The price for the VS-2 FineHD Kit is $279 but it could change when released. Hopefully not higher.
Aputure sent this to me to test it out but I think this is a final version. They can add features since the monitor is firmware updatable.

The DP7 is 1280x800 400 cd/m2 219 PPI
The VS-2 FineHD is 1920x1200 450 cd/m2 323 PPI

If comparing it to the SmallHD specs it looks pretty good for a fraction of the price.

@Joshue_G I took it outside yesterday and it was cloudy and the monitor worked pretty well. Comes with a sun hood.

Here is the Manual for the VS-2 FineHD

Took it outside this morning while the sun was still low. Very usable in the shade. Only issue is the screen is glossy and you know how that works outside. The sun hood attaches securely with a clever design. The whole thing is so light. Don't know how durable it is but I like that it hardly weights anything.

There is actually one company (Hot Rod Cameras) that has an pre-order list under the counter for the Aputure VS-2 FineHD. If you want on (with no deposit) you have to send an email to email @ hotrodcameras dot com. ETA is about January 15.

I heard back from Aputure and they are claiming it is an 8bit display panel and not 6bit which is very good. This monitor is really looking like a solid solution. Even for a low budget monitor and has some key advantages over other professional monitors.
