Gaffer & Gear 53: Apurture Spotlight Mount

It looks like a pretty solid option! Any word on the ETA of the 50 degree lens?

Its length on the back end means it's pretty limited in the amount you can tilt up when on a stand or tilt down if mounted to an overhead grid/truss etc. Jolekos share this issue too vs. non-modified source 4 tungsten and LED lights that clear the yoke (talking about ellipsoidals). I'm sure you could just make your own (comically) tall yoke if needed. It's not necessarily only about controlling light from the blades and lens but also how much control you have over its position. This probably won't be a problem for many and is only something to think about rather than buying for a certain project only to discover on the day of shooting.

I imagine a lot of people will buy all three lenses, I hope they put out a hard case that can carry all three (four?) lenses.

PS Been slammed, & won’t be home until the middle of September, so haven’t had time to properly test the 300d II, or thoughtfully reply to posts in this thread.

Is anyone using this Bowen's mount 190 cm (75") deep softbox with C300d II?

£181.19 is 1/6 of the HENSEL Grand equivalent and it even includes honeycomb grid.

I wouldn't care for few hundred kelvins difference, if it is easy to deploy like Dome II.

Problem with most Chinese brand lights is that they just don't care what will happen with the product after sale.

So, investment that looks favorably at first, is questionable due to lack of support and service.

Buying in excess, with redundancy/sacrificial for parts in mind, doesn't look that economically viable anymore.

Hope that Aperture will break that stereotype

It appears Aputure is trying to “break that stereotype”. They are active on social media, especially Facebook, & respond when a user has an issue. Outside of China they have Service Centers in Los Angeles, & Amsterdam, & are looking to add a couple more, likely starting with a location in South America.

Support is all important, & if it weren’t for the LA service center I would have reservations purchasing.

If only the dang lights were available to buy... Looks like it's still on backorder. :-(

Anyone here received a 300D II ? Mine has been on backorder since a few days after it was available to order. Would like to make this purchase before the end of the year... may have to go another direction if they still aren't shipping in any quantities....

I've had mine for a while. However, I ordered from Adorama same day that it went up on their site. Try Hot Rod Cameras in California.

Hot Rod & Samy’s appear to be the most successful in filling orders, perhaps because they are located in LA which is where Aputure have their USA offices. If ordering from Samy’s contact Karen McHugh in Pro Sales. Picked up two 300d2 from her when they were out of stock everywhere else.

Also, joker has a bi-color 300 with lenses for less than an hmi. Still a different price bracket, but more versatile than Aputure and more affordable than Arri Orbiter.
