Aputure Amaran 672 Recommendations

I have too many panels now and need more focus-able fresnel type lights so I bought three CAME-TV Boltzen lights. (1) 30 watt and (2) 55 watt. And will get another COB 120d daylight with fresnel accessories when they ship. Add in the Lightstorm LS 1s that I have and this will give me a nice kit.

Hi Eric

why a 30 watt fresnel rather than another 55 watt?

I wanted to try it out. I don't believe the Boltzen dims down to 0% so if I need less the 30 watt might be better for a accent or hair light. Taking a chance on it.

Thanks for clarifying ( I thought it may have been more to do with any possible fan noise issues using the 55)

Hey everyone, thanks again for all the help. I'm very close to pulling the trigger now. Does anyone know if the include batteries are actually Sony branded because two genuine Sony batteries would cost as much as the light (hence I'm assuming they are not). Where I'm buying from they sell these which are supposedly aputure branded:

They cost about 1/3 the cost of a Sony battery - would they be okay? I'm also chasing a dual battery charger. I've found the expensive Sony dual charger but I don't know if it only works with the Sony or is there is a suitable alternative.

I just want a few extra batteries plus a charging method which doesn't involve the light itself.

Luke; I got my Sony batteries from these guys in Melbourne http://stores.ebay.com.au/Gorilla-Film-Gear?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

I got a dual charger with FAST / SLOW charging and digital display from http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dual-Twi...183993?hash=item3d189159f9:g:2kkAAOSwbYZXWUkl

The included batteries are generic 6600mah (at least that is what is written on them) and they last just shy of 2 hrs at full power

I just bought the Amaran 672 kit with two W lights and one S light. Will report back when I've used it over the weekend. I know the build quality won't be great, but I tend to baby all my equipment, so I'm hopeful these will last a bit.

If I were you, I'd skip the "kit" they sell and put together your own kit, including one spot, one wide, and one bicolor.

Cheers,
Slavik

Going all the way back to this post, I went to buy the kit today and had a spanner thrown in. They now offer a SSC kit for the same price as the SSW or WWS. Previously you couldn't get the bicolour in their kits. Would you recommend the SSC over the SSW now it is available?

EDIT: did some more research and the bicolor isn't as bright as the flood. So I'm going to lock in the SSW.

I've started playing with the kit and I'm impressed so far. Is there any technique to taking the batteries off the light? I've just been pulling them off but it does not seem right.

I bought the kit about a year ago. Unless you are a gorilla I think these lights will last quite a while, they come in a real nice carrying case. If you drop one it will probably shatter, but most lights would probably not survive. The quality of the light is really outstanding. I can't use my other LEDs in combination with them because they give a reddish tint.

One thing that is annoying is if you leave the batteries in the lights overnight they will drain. One light the batteries survive maybe two days the others go overnight. Very important that they are upright with the vents on the top. I made the mistake once of putting one upside down and it started flickering. I corrected the problem and have had a problem since. I use these lights in my shop they are on for 12 hours a day for months with no problems.

You don't need a battery charger they charge in the lights.
