Aputure 300d

Hi Tom, where did you get them ? I ended up ordering on Aliexpress and asked to write a lower price on the box to somehow lower import duties from China.
I got from PROAV

I paid €1.270,00 for the COB300, fresnel mount, light Dome and space light! it's a good deal in my opinion and worth it.
Very good deal

hearing about green too in FB groups. mostly on edge of the actual LED chip.. ? But sounds like it varies from light to light.. not everyone affected.

What is the fastest way , test to check if led has any colour cast ?

Oh ok , there is daylight version as well , nice ,much cheaper . When I look at both rayzr7 and 300d I see that each one has good and bad sides . Rayzr7 there is no any cable , very nice ( you are straight away ready to work ) , but it is very heavy 6,4 kg ( without any battery ) , so you have to use heavy light stand as well because all weight is at the top . 300d has separate ballast ( I do not know how heavy it is ? ) , so there is extra cables which slow you down with set up , but from other hands separate ballast might be hang up at the bottom on light stand together with battery make your light stand more steady . 300d is only 2.1kg so you can use much lighter light stand , when you are outside that might be more handy way .
The best way could be compare them side by side . Rayzr might be much better quality I do not know might be or not . Customer service is also very important .

Yeah Tom, I'm with you on the weight, however having bought and used 2 Aputure Light Storms for the past year, I actually find all the various bits and cables required for each light a right pain in the arse, so like you, the thought of just a head and cable like the Rayzr, now really appeals to me, especially when it comes to finding road cases and transport, not to mention less risk of some piece being left behind.

As for the heavy stand required for the Rayzr, I think its a good thing, the lighter light stands are an accident waiting to happen, no matter what light they are supporting, especially outside. Something like https://www.thomann.de/ie/manfrotto_007bsu_stativ_black.htm is a good halfway house, not the heaviest, but can take 6.7 KG at max height, whack on a set of castors and you're set for years ... and also get a free workout throw in :)

This is from Ted Sim of Aputure:

"hey guys, been seeing a lot of comments about the green edge of the 300d this weekend so here’s an update on the A-Team headspace and our response to all of this:
The colored edge is a difficulty we ran into between pre-production and mass production with the 300d. We didn’t see this effect in our early trade show models, so like many of you, we were surprised to find this in our QC process. But since then, we’ve been hard at work looking for a solution.
At this point, we've already found a couple options to fix the problem. But like anything worthwhile, it’s going to take some time for us to fully research QC and put any of them into action. That said, know that when we do solve this issue, know we will take care of you, too. Aputure family should know that we’ve always been here to service and support our users. And if this is your first purchase with us, give us a little time so we can prove what we’re all about.
There are a couple of misconceptions flying around online though so let me do my best to address those too. Foremost being, the green edge is just an edge, not a tint. The color fidelity that you will get from anywhere other than the edge of the light’s cast should be as clean and clear as any other Aputure light—even if this means the literal modifier looks green.
This is important because I’m seeing a lot of photos of green-looking modifiers online, which I completely understand is worrisome. That said, I’d urge you to look at the actual cast of the light when it is emitted from your source and onto your subject. Though the modifier itself may look green, the actual light exiting the modifier should be fine. Barebulb is when the green edge will be most noticeable. With the reflector, yes you’ll catch a bit of green on the edges. But with a softbox, space light, fresnel or really any other modifier, you’ll see that while the modifier lights up green, the actual light exiting the fixture should be as clean as ever. I know this might sound strange and maybe not ideal, but since this effect isn’t nearly as bad as some have been making it out to be, I’ll try to make a video this week to demonstrate.
In any sense, I know this news might still be disappointing for some of you that were excited about the 300d. So again, if this is an issue, I hope you’ll know that we will take care of not only you, but also everyone here. And that this is something we promise. When we’ve solved this problem, know that we’ll offer free repair and replacements to correct this issue. If you’re thinking about buying a 300d, know that you’ll be offered the same repair. And finally, know that if the green edge makes the light unusable for you, we’ll get you a full refund with no questions asked.
And in the meanwhile, we owe you guys a big thank you for the feedback online and apologize for any inconvenience that this issue might have caused. We hope you’ll continue to support us as we do our best to fix this issue and make sure it doesn’t happen again."

Ok what I should I do now ? I am already paid , shop did not send me light yet . I can wait until aperture will fix this issue , no problem . Should I ask shop hold with shipping ? How long is it gonna take aperture to fix it ?

Well... at least they are showing a level of customer service and satisfaction that is reassuring. Not all brands do this. Tells me they really want this to work.

Thanks ozmorphasis
Do you think Manfrotto 1004 manage with 300d ?
I was looking light stand with leveling Legs , that could be handy outside . Unfortunately they are pricey

Absolutely, the 300d is not a heavy fixture. Only the rest of the ball and chain connected to it are heavy, which can serve as weight to further stabilize the stand when you hang the controller.

The manfrotto stand is pretty great. If you're going to go with aluminum, then it's the way to go in my opinion. If going heavier, then yes, you can get into a beefy baby, etc.

I love the manfrotto. I have three. They link up and are easy to carry, relatively lightweight, but also very sturdy with a decently large enough footprint to provide stability in use.

Hi I got message from PROAV today
Thank you for your e-mail. We are expecting a shipment mid-end of this month.

It is possible that this issue has affected shipment dates to us, but be reassured, as Aputure have indicated that if there are any issues we will do our very best to solve them for you.
When I checked Aputure website 300d is out of stock , so maybe new batch will be fix , with no green tint effect

Everywhere I see them listed, they are out of stock and awaiting more stock (ETA of 30 NOV). From what I've heard from online feedback, not every light is/was affected. Though, obviously, I would hope that the new batch has zero imperfections.
