April 24th

yeah that was hilarious. it kind of explains why the 5d has 30. stu maschwitz speculated on his blog whether the engineer behind the 24p in the lx3 was fired for not being able to make it 30, like in the predecessor, i'm not so sure that's not the case. :-)

HAHAHA, my god, the more the better! My camera shoots at 30fps, yours only at 24....my dad is stronger then yours.
Delivery in june for north america? I tough it was august.

barring a D400 release or D90 firmware update I'm in. I have to wait till end of may for the 25fps model here.

You keep changing your mind every day. I think you should wait for the GH1 to launch then take one of your actors to a camera store and shoot a 1 minute scene with each of the d90 and teh GH1, on the assumption that what you get back on your SD card is not necessarily how you expect the final to look.

hehe, you should see my trying to figure out what to have for breakfast. I might let kholi continue the tradition and be the crash test dummy. I think we might be seeing the D400 too by summer.

:-) I know what you mean

Well, my advice is that unless the image quality from the GH1 turns out to be unacceptable - and I don't mean immediately seductive straight out of the camera, but not god enough even after you've done post tests - it's probably the better camera for you.

The problem with things like the d90 is that while it's definitely possible to work around its limitations and great a great result, over the timespan required to shoot a feature, even a super-fast and efficient one, having to fudge all those settings is going to become incredibly aggravating. What was merely an inconvenience on day 1 becomes an evil conspiracy by day 10.

I still think the D90 is a fine camera and am very impressed with the results from it. But the 5-minute recording limit is a small problem, and the system of doing an exposure read-and-lock for every shot is a really big problem - that's what put me off the idea of using it for any series (> weekend) production. It might only take 10-15 seconds per take, but over a day that could translate into a whole hour of production time - and lacking money, time is one of your most precious resources.

Yeah I definitely envisage the D90 being a pain in the arse to work with on set but if a better alternative isn't available at the time I'll suffer for my art. by the time I get my **** together there is bound to be a more useable option.

Don't be so mean, guys. Leave poor Martyn Williams alone. He doesn't know anything about film 24fps technology... He's only a video 30, 60i guy... HEHE... Sorry I can't help laughing like a manic.
