FS5: Appropriate Metabones for APS-C Lens?

I'm interested in this Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens for the FS5: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/967344-REG/sigma_18_35mm_f1_8_dc_hsm.html

I own the expensive Metabones Speedbooster Ultra for Canon to E Mount, designed for Full Frame glass: http://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPEF-E-BT2

What would be the appropriate adapter to use to get the APS-C lens on the FS5? Would I lose the outer edges if I just used my current Speedbooster? That 1.8 is the fastest zoom I've seen, andf it would be great for night shooting. I just don't want to have to drop another 200.00, 400.00, or 650.00 to get the lens on the camera.

I would just buy the E-Mount version then. You can't use the lens with a speedbooster. You need the EF->E Mount version of the Metabones if you want to get the Canon mount zoom.

My Speedbooster is EF to E already. I know the speedbooster aspect won't work. I just don't know if my current EF>E adapter will vignette with the APS-C lens.

So if you buy that lens in Canon mount....you need the regular smart adapter, NOT the speedbooster.
The speedbooster only works with full frame lenses and the Sigma 18-35 is an APS-C lens. So to
answer your question, YES it will vignette if you try to use the speedbooster with it.
Now what you can do, is buy a cheaper adapter....the metabones is $399 for the regular
smart adapter EF to E mount. You can get one from Commlite or RJ for around $100, and
they work too. Or you could buy the Sigma in Nikon mount and buy the Novoflex adapter.
I use the lens on my FS700 with a regular EF to E mount smart adapter and it's one of my
favorite lenses.....only downside is that it's pretty big and heavy....lots of glass!

Thank you AlaskaCameraDude! That's the kind of straight answer I'm looking for. I want to stick with Canon mounts. I'll try the Commlite. I see my buddy Dave DugDale made a video about it that I'll review. I know how heavi those dang Art lenses are! I have the 2lb 24-105mm. I think the 18-35mm isa tad lighter, but not much. That too is a sweet lens!

The Commlite has got great reviews from everyone I know. And yeah, the Sigma Art series is top notch! They are killing it with their lenses
recently.

Sigma doesn't offer the 18-35mm in any mirrorless mounts, such as E, or m43.

Supposedly the 18-35mm is parfocal but AFAIK none of the adapters except the Speedbooster allow altering the backfocus so this functionality may be lost on Sony's E-Mount cameras.

On my FS700 with EF to E mount smart adapter (non speedbooster), it's parfocal.

On the Sigma 18-35mm you can adjust the backfocus on yoru computer, as shown in this video:

Make sure you are using a lens support. I've seen plenty of adapters get sheared off under the weight of a bigger lens.

I'm using a 2lb Sigma 24-105 now with a Speedbooster Ultra, and it seems fine. The 18-35 is lighter. Is there some official info out there that styates a specific weight limit? I thought lenses that require support usually have a support attachment.

Take account your using lenses designed for the EF-mount, & adapting them for use on the weaker E-mount.

Don't know the exact squeal point so my rule-of-thumb is to support any combination that produces flex at the E-mount, however if I'm swapping lenses this is not always practical. I'll also try to support the lens if it's likely the camera might get banged around.

I'm mostly using a variety of EF lenses, & Sony's 28-135mm. I've used the Sony without support, but it does flex, so prefer to attach it's foot to the rails. My heaviest EF lens is probably the 24-70/2.8, & it seems OK without support, but often attach to the Metabones foot to reduce rotational slop at the E-mount.

Okay chatting with a friend about buying his Rokinon Cine DS for my upcoming Fs5. They're Nikon mount because he has them left over from his Blackmagic days. The 24, 35, 50, 85 & 100 are the full frame lens. So I'd need the F to E mount meatiness.

But the 10 & 16 are APS... so then I'd need to buy just an F to E mount. Then they won't vignette. Same goes for his Sigma 18 to 35.

I think I have to add up the costs and see if going with the Emount in the long run would be cheaper. Will do that now. Unless he unloads the lens at a very good price.
