Apple Switch Spoof and Testing Green Screen

I was doing some green screen tests, and decided to do a cheesy apple spoof along with it.
So check out the Green Screen Test/Apple Spoof

Apple Spoof/Green Screen Test

Also if you did much better, please let me see your footage and how you did it... I think FCP's Chroma Key/Chroma Smoothing is a little too primitave to use with DV footage... too many artificats are left behind... Has anyone had an easier time with it, or some other software?

*************************
EDIT (UPDATED SWITCH MUCH NICER):
VER 2 APPLE SWITCH

Used AE to Key, forget FCP.. AE is much better for this.
Also color corrected.

Not bad, man!

I highly recommend picking up DV Garage's DV Matte Pro for FCP or even DV Matte Blast for Motion. They both do excellent keying on DV footage.

Nice one!

Any pics for us of green screen and lightning? I would like to see.

Thanks.

I'll put up the green screen video, but no, I didn't get picks of the lighting setup...
but I can describe it...

so to my left around 10ft is a 500 watt lowell omni open faced light, which is basically lighting the green screen (more than me anyways)
and to my right around 45 degrees is another 500 watt much closer around 5ft away, lighting me and the green screen.

I usually use more lights to light the green screen, but it was like 2am on friday night and didn't have the energy to rig a clear seperation... so thats at least one reason I have more artifacts showing up.

then i added color smoothing 4:1:1 for DV
and then chroma key
and then a garbage matt (8 points)

(it has to be in that order on your filter list)

all done in FCP

I'm probably leaving out some details, but ask me and I'll let you know what else I did.

downloaded QT 7 and it's all good now. That's pretty cool bro! I need to learn how to rock my FCP like that!
its not too hard to use fcp for this...
its more difficult to make an even green screen
but here are some tutorials I used
http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/chroma_key_fcp_hd_monahan.html
http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/chroma_key_part_1.html
http://www.neopics.com/bluescreen/

hope those help...
if anyone needs DV footage of green screen to practice... I have it and dont mind sharing it...
so just let me know...
but they will be big files!

Dude they were both pretty cool.

The Austin was a pretty cool spoof as well.

Im new to the Green screen world and im gonan ask a dumb question

but as an inferior PC user can i still manage this with premeire or AFter Effects

i havent done much research as my interest is still pretty new.

Well CameraGUY, we edited my Austin trailer on FCP HD. All green screen keying was done in that program, we didn't use anything else to help the keying. We did use After Effects for the snow.

I'm a PC guy myself, but when I do have the money, I'll purchase a G5 with FCP HD. So I can't help you man. Good luck with everything though.

well bokser, FCP worked out great for the trailer my friend and i submitted to the AFF. i guess it's really opinion and how good you are at each program.

Maybe, I am better at AE since I've been using it fro years and years...
but post your before and after green screen shots and I'd like to check it out.

Bokser-
I like the 2nd version a lot better. The matte is much cleaner on it. I like the content as well.

Additional thoughts:
I think that this would have comeout better if you had gone the following route:
Use a completely white background, and like the background and foreground seperately. With the background, light it so that it clips (Probably at around 90%, but you'll want to do some tests. Then light the subject/forground normally. The trick it to light them seperately without any spill. If you go this route you will more closely emulate the apple adds as they filmed on a white syc set. But if your goal was just to tryout green screen, good job. I think you did well for using a DV source. (DV is definately the hardest to do.)

hey man, i just finished a trailer for the Austin Film Festival trailer competition.
Tell me what you think.

I liked that a lot! It reminded me a lot of sin city- strong black and white with strong accent colors. I love that look and it fits this piece well. I hope you do well with it. My only critique is that the audio needs to be mixed better. The dialogue gets overpowered at times and can be hard to hear.

Thanks for the feedback... but yes I was doing this also to play with greenscreen, so using a white muslin bg would have made this much easier...
but even with this greenscreen test I was just testing how little I could light it, 2 lights for both gs and the actor (me in this case)... and was pleasantly surprised by how much can be done with the simple tools of AE.
In my next test I will seperate the bg and fg completely and see how much better the key can be.

bokser, i'll try to get my before and after pics up of my green screen. it'll be tough because i don't know if i have the tape anymore, and the project is actually on my friend's comp. i'll see what i can do. i love these green screen threads because it shows everyone talent.

waltind, thanks for the comments man. that's what we were going for, the sin city look. i agree with you on the audio as with everyone else, i think the compression messed it up quite a bit because it wasn't that bad when we were editing it. we'll fix it up if we get in the finals! thanks!
