Apple Shake for 499.00

Wow, that is a superb price. Shake is so good, this price point will probably convince some Windows users to purchase a Mac (a fact probably not lost on Apple's sales execs).

The college I work for has just purchased after effects 7 for our g5 editing computer. I was just about to order after effects training dvd's but now it looks like I will be ordering shake dvd's for my freelance work. For 4k you can get into the video editing game and compete now.$1800 for final cut studio and Shake 4 is simply amazing. A little over half the price of what shake use to cost. I never could consider shake seriously for freelance work cause of the price now I can't consider after effects because of the price haha. I most say I am proud to be a mac user today. In a month or so I can buy shake versus saving up for six months or so.
Yes after effects is worth $999 but if you already have motion2 (which comes with final cut) you buy shake and you have motion graphics and compositing covered. I honestly don't know what this combination can't do. Oh yeah Motion 2 is way under rated. Peace

I believe shake runs on Linux as well right? PC users could just run it off linux and not have to buy apple hardware.

would linux (nopix, redhat) let u use open GL, virtual PC didn't

exactly today I was thinkin' if they made macs run XP, why not let PC users run the Final cut suite...

Gotta grieve with this poor soul who just dropped $1900 for Shake 4 on eBay last week:

This is EXACTLY why you should invest in high quality lighting instruments instead of electronics. Lighting equipment will not lose nearly all of its value in a year, like software does. If you must buy software, at least consider buying an older version from another user that will still be worth about what you paid for it on the second hand market when you are ready to sell it and get a newer version. I do this with all of my software and save thousands of dollars a year, that I put towards lighting. I suggest to all of you to quit buying full priced "creative" applications and instead invest in something that will retain its value over the life of the product.

B_Dub, while you're right about hardware holding value a whole lot better than software, you're kinda coming out of the blue with this one. You're making it seem like Final Cut Pro and a Mole Tweenie are one in the same somehow. I agree with you that it sucks to pay a lot for software, but if you need something, you need it, and no amount of lights will ever replace good DVD software for example. I don't mean to stomp all over you, it just seemed like a really weird point to me.
Peace,
