Well, from what I've seen it does state "DVD Studio Pro 4" is included.
And that ProRes 444 feature is going to seal the deal.
As if the $999 price drop didn't already.

Apple also introduced the new Logic Studio, with more than 200 new features. I don't have Logic, but seems like a good time to jump on board.

Hell of a price drop...among notables is the cutting of the PPC Macs, Apple is moving on...

They are also pushing the RED workflow too, that'll make a lot of people happy.

They did not even mention if FCS 3 is 64 bit and will support Open CL. Therefore, historically, Apple might be releasing a update (some small amount of $$) for those features to take advantage of Snow Leopard (in sept).

I am so excited about this. anybody notice though that the academic version actually went up by 200 bucks. And since I think much or even most of their consumer base for FCS are in fact students... well they may just be making more $ than they would if the prices stayed the same.

Academic pricing doesn't make sense to me unless people can get an additional cut through their school - only $100 less than the full thing? The only way that makes sense is if they'll allow academic copies to upgrade to the next full version, otherwise you're really just costing yourself more in the long run (provided you intend to stick with FCS).

upgraded last night. im on 8 core 2.93ghz, 16ram, 4870graphics. so far i see NO percievable difference in performance (from FC studio 2) based upon XDCAM EX file types.

they had mentioned in their specs that there was improvements specifically for the XDCAM files but i cant feel any difference.

maybe all improvements will come when Snow Leopard show up with Grand Central Dispatch.

if my understanding correct that its still on the software companies to make "their" software multi proccessor aware and not just like SL will make it work on its own? anyone know this?

also, my interpretation is that GCD is the means that 3rd party software makers will use to program and optimize their software and plugins for multi processors CPU's.

of course apple makes FCP so hopefully FCP will improve when SL comes along.

Just bought the upgrade, but the new FCP 7.0 has been giving me problems. I'm running it on a MacPro Quad-core 2.66ghz. Whenever I minimize FCP, or just move from the FCP platform to another software, or just the desktop, FCP will hang. It happens 100% of the time. Does anyone else have the same problem?

How much RAM are you running?
