Any word about it this year? Has the entire idea just been abandoned by Apple after last year's disaster?

What happened last year? All I know is we were planning on entering, and then they pulled the plug. I never really looked into why.

Last year they had some sort of database problems which made it extremely hard for people to sign up. To be fair and to make sure everyone was able to sign up that wanted to, they announced that they were going to postpone it by a few months after they fix the problems. 1 month later they released a statement saying that it was cancelled.
