The Apple and Panasonic teams are working hard to improve this seminar based on your feedback.

i dont want to judge what I have not seen for myself.. but would those improvements apply in the NY seminar as well?

Welcome to the forum Paul.
I'm glad to hear your team is acting on this feedback. I'm coming down to the Seattle show from Vancouver, B.C. and I was starting to get cold feet as it's a long drive for a short seminar. But I think I'll still give it a go if you believe there will be improvements.
Thanks!

In their defense, as I asked the question concerning timecode and genlock, one of the Panasonic reps gave me some useful information about extracting gen-lockable time code from the firewire stream using third party hardware.

Point 2
I think that the transfer from the P2 card only SAID it would take 13 minutes. The little blue Apple bar looked like it was chugging along at a good rate before it was aborted. (...sorrry, I mean cancelled...)

I was a little disappointed by the lack of footage. I will be on the lookout for the DVD they say the will send.

The good news is that my HVX had been delivered and was waiting for me when I got home. And I love this camera. I have it at work today in hollywood filming all the local street loonies in standard def. (no P2's till next week.) Even in standard def this thing looks wonderful. I have tried just checking out throughput in P2 mode and DAMN it lloks nice. Love the focus assist. I find it easy to adjust the focus ring and tap the F.A. button at the same time. Now the fun begins...WAHOO !!

with regards to the 13 minute 4GB transfer:

every time i dump a 4GB card to a mac through FW, it starts off slow for the first 30 seconds and says "13 minutes remaining". After a couple hundred MBs, it takes off and in the end only takes 4-5 minutes total. I've done this with a dual-core G5 and an ibook G4.

Anyone else experience this?

Welcome to the forum Paul! :)
I'm in Italy but I'm very interested to this reports, I'm happy that soon we can see officially info about Panasonic's new camera workflow on Apple platforms.
I live in Pal land, so the camera will be available between March/April, I'm waiting for a new Macbook Pro 17" with pmcia slots to accomodate P2 cards.
Considering the waiting in Europe, I hope we will have some advantages, I dunno what are Apple's plans, but d'you know if we can use a new Macbook Pro 17" (with Final Cut Pro Intel) when the camera will be available here?

I hope to buy a powermac (Intel chipset, will be available too?) and and macbook pro 17" to support the camera.
So tell to Steve Jobs to make the things good! :)

p.s.: It would be ideal if Apple adds blueray recorder to new Macbook Pro 17", I hope Apple listen to me! :)

p.p.s.: I'm now reading the pdf, thanks Paul! :)

Thanks Paul. I hope the next version of FCP can handle 1080 24P. I also hope it can do the following:

Rename a group of clips while it ingests. This will make it easier to find to assemble the clips that span over two cards.

the ability to preview the thumbnails on the P2 in FCP

It would be great to mark the clips that have already been ingested. When you have so many clips to import, you forget where you left off.

There should also be a import all disk partitions.

Thats all for now.

Hey, don't get me wrong! I know there are answers, I know 13 minutes was not likely, and I know answers may have been provided that were not presented to the group as a whole... but to MOST of the 200 people sitting there (and most importantly the ones who don't stare at DVXUser 26 hours a day), the answer was "I don't know" and the 13 minutes was not disputed, etc.

Paul from Apple: thanks for being here! You guys have such great downloadable videos on the web explaining FCP features - you should really incorporate something like that into the presentation!
