$3200???the price is over the top, even for apple, another mac pro, another pass, I am so happy with my quadcore

Yeah, I am very happy with the quad I got couple weeks ago(d'oh!). It even handles my RED 2K just fine with real time playback and all. No complaints so far. Except that I should have waited two weeks...

But what happen to Blu-ray option...
iMac will be stuck with a Core 2 Duo! & A memory upgrade for iMac (2x4GB) is 1000$!!!! WTF (LOL)
Pro starts at $2600 and Graphics card worth half a crap
(LOL)

I'm about to upgrade from my G5 Dual. So all I really need is the Quad core? And why do the number of cores make a difference? I'm not really too computer savvy when you start talking internals.

its funny all the complaints people have on macrumors about the new releases. It seems like they want apple to give you everything for nothing.

filthrich i have a G5 dualcore and I think the quad would be a huge upgrade. I cant remember what I paid for my G5 but it was close to what the quad is these days i think.

I do think the grand for 4GB of RAM upgrade in the iMacs is ridiculous. I'm taking that its not user replaceable.

# of Cores basically = # of processors.

This is pretty cool, and as a comment to the comment about the prices...these things are worth the money. They last a long time and are beastly render machines from the day they first turn on until the day they croke.

I have the Dual-Core 2.66ghz version from a year or so ago, 5GB RAM, 1900XT Graphics, 3TB Internal Space. I love it, and I can't wait till I have the dough for another one of these new babies and a great display.

It makes web compression and rendering cake work.

EDIT: I agree, the lack of bluray does suck.

So what is the major difference between this and the 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual Core ones from about a year ago? Is this new processor a more efficient? Less heat because of a single processor?

Wouldn't the processing power be the same?

And just what, pray tell, is a "Mighty Mouse" for a Mac?

Did they finally buckle down, burn the midnight oil, and create a mouse with the elusive "right click" option?

I'de rather have 3 kick ass PCs, and they would be VERY kick ass, than one of those.

Entirely new processor architecture from Intel means faster.

But didn't they already release Octo Core Mac Pros a while ago? So if we can have a single Quad Core processor, how long until we have double Octo Core power? Seems like we already do. Apple is claiming that their 8 Core machines have 16 Core processing power due to virtual cores.

I would guess that editing native AVC-HD and Redcode RAW shouldn't pose any problems with one of these beasts.

Obviously you didn't get the memo or haven't used a Mac since 2005. They made a mouse with a scroll ball and right click in August 2005, and yes it's kick ass. very. :-Laugh(DBG)-1

May 2006 first Macbook and every one since has had right click.

As far a prices I have a PowerPC 9600/350 I found in the trash on the street that originally sold for over $6000 in 1997. It was "the" Avid and Photoshop machine. The thing had 12 RAM Slots and 6 PCI slots.

All that being said I will be using my 2.8 Dual Quad for the foreseeable future and loving the fact that I did not wait until March 09.
