Apple announcements

haven't researched them a ton, but the best one is $599, and you can record from your tv, transfer from your pc, etc.

Looks cool, but Dish Network does not have the brand name that the iPod does. I just hope we do not get into a situation where there are a hundred devices all with incompatible standards.

something tells me that apple charging money for music videos is a way to keep the big music chimps from trying to inflate the price of songs any further.. sort of like bartering... we selll the videos to give you more money. .etc...

I could be wrong.. it may also just be a test to see how popular the TV shows and music vids sell..

At first I was like, "hey cool. download music videos and play 'em on the go" then I realized, "oh, they're charging for the music videos!" then it hit me, "THEY ARE SELLING MUSIC VIDEOS!!!" What the ____ ? Maybe in the future I'll be able to pay for all the advertising companies want to send me! Since when were music videos a product? Harruummphhh...

This is a very good point. But Honestly, TV broadcast is not free (you pay for it watching advertising), and you buy DVDs with the music videos of your stars, like the awesome Bjork DVD, so I guess that makes music videos a product. Everything is a product, you just have to glue a price label on it...

But the good point is that if they want to sell their product, they have to provide content. As we are now, there is not enough content for it. Maybe it will be video podcasts, maybe free downloads, maybe exclusive releases (like the short pixar films), but music videos alone wont cut it, that's for sure.

Don't get me wrong, of course I realize two hour battery time is not enough, but as I said, nobody will be watching long stuff on their tiny iPod displays, anyway. Lost, and Desperate Housewifes will work much better on the iMac than the iPod... (If the compression is good enough...)

And yes, you can have your home videos in it, just have to enconde them using quicktime 7.0.3 - But get this - PRO.

Anyway, they did the apple music store, so what else can they come up with remains to be seen. I think this year is just a shy beggining for the video iPod. An experiment, but one that could go right.

thats ignorant to say. i'm not even going to start.
Yeah. I updated my original post so you can see what I am referring to.

Next time you go to an electronics store, ask them about the return/repair rates of the iPod mini. Mind you, I don't own one, so it's a second-hand info. So is the roundness of Earth. Does that make me ignorant? :undecided

Why is it that companies can test drive their products on the consumers and still get away with it? That's what I really meant. Apple is still far, far better than Microsoft, but I see them going in the wrong direction, IMO.

Video podcasting--I think it's going to be a cool trend. I immediately thought of us packaging a ZombieCast, maybe a selection of 10-15 films in 320x240 H.264. That'd be worth $1.99, eh? $1.99 music videos is a good thing for small production companies because if there turns out to be popular, theres going to be a nice market and more productions and money. If people will pay $0.99 for a song alone, I don't think an extra buck for visual content is unreasonable at all.

These new v.iPods are just the first generation, but I think portable video will catch on. Another cool detail on these new iPods--audio recording (WAV) in Stereo at 44.1 KHz.

XCheck, I think your falling into a little trap here...

Return/Repair ratio's of Apple products are no better or no worse than other companies..

but.. Apple Products get way more press attention, because the users are sometimes, a lot of times whiny little bitches about things. You tend to hear about these things even more when apple is reluctant to do anything about it (even though they should IMO).

Honestly, you hear about all these problems because in contrast, why would someone post about their "great" experience and cause a tantrum about a product that works like it is supposed to? I think you get what I am saying here...

It could be just a matter of perspective.. I think apple is one of the few companies that attempts to make a fool proof products.. but obviously some problems slip through the cracks.

just an idea though..

i agree with loki. thats why it seems to take so long for updates. it WOULD be fair to say microsoft tests products on users. that would explain the fact that they released 11 HIGH RISK SECURITY updates for server 2003 today....and that was just today!

HOWEVER, one thing that pisses me off about apple....the techs in there dont know ****. i had an "EXPERT" look at mine, tell me it was unfixable, then i fixed it later and realized it was something simple. phone support is great- but the stores.....meh

No details yet, but there's only the miniplug jack and the dock connector. Maybe there's going to be more accessories available for input.

How? An 1/8" MiniPlug from Griffin?

" Since when were music videos a product?"

Yeah, and how dare they try to sell me music I can hear for free on the radio. Preposterous!! It will never work!!

/end sarcasm

In reality, Apple is probably getting ready to ignite the music video / tv show / movie biz just like they did with the music biz. Video on demand, it's the "future"....

I can't believe anyone is still bitching about having to spend $30 to upgrade to QT Pro when 7 came out. Paying for software upgrades IS kind of standard... How long do you expect a $30 software purchase to stay good for? Maybe if spending $30 once every two years is such a problem, your in the wrong business. I like the new products from Apple. At least they keep coming out with new, innovative ideas. Excuse me, but what has MS and all the cookie cutter PC companies done in the last two years, besides offer stripped down, boring, no software boxes in the $400 price range?
