Hey Everyone,

I've recently started a Kickstarter campaign for our next film APEX. I started it about 6 days ago, and we just passed the $1000 marker, however, we only have 11 days left to raise the rest of our $5000 goal. It's going to be a great film with a great cast which I will talk about in the next few posts. You can see one of my previous shorts in the posts below, and I will be posting another one this week. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Also, if you are in LA and can help us in other way (willing to work on the film, know someone who would be able to help us, etc.) that would be very helpful as well.

Here is some more info:

WHAT YOU ARE FUNDING:

We're shooting an 'outbreak' genre film in the vein of 28 Days Later that follows a group of lifelong friends living in a quarantined state. We have a talented cast & crew attached. Exciting cast list to be announced soon.

WHY WE NEED FUNDING:

Our film will require heavy special effects makeup to conceive the creatures. As you can imagine, our talented artists will need a sizable budget to work with. Though we are contributing our own money to this labor of love, it's not enough, and we need your help. Please help us, by donating whatever you can. We appreciate every donation, no matter how big or small, even if you just pass our link along.

SYNOPSIS:

An outbreak of a deadly virus forces California residents to quarantine themselves in their homes. The virus induces a radical shift in temperament, devolving them to their most primal instincts, however they may not be void of emotion. With military checkpoints all along the coast of California, civilians can migrate weekly to pick up their supply of food and water; the latter being of utmost importance.

Our story focuses on a young group of friends who have known each other their entire lives, save for one girl, REGAN, a relatively new addition to this lifelong clique. Regan is quickly learning that these are the type of friends that know each other inside and out... their strengths, their fears, their personal demons, and their deepest, darkest secrets. Regan, however, has never felt this connection, this camaraderie with a group of people before. She’s still just getting used to having that connection with her boyfriend, TIM.
This group has been holed up in the top floor of a duplex for weeks. They have remained completely safe from the infected and have seen little to no virus symptoms in themselves... So they think. Having remained inside their cozy apartment with the luxuries of modern technology and entertainment, they have yet to be exposed to the near post-apocalyptic surroundings.
When Regan and Tim arrive back with supplies from the nearby military checkpoint, they inform the others that their city is dry and have been asked to migrate four hours north to the next checkpoint. The group has mixed feelings about taking the drive, which causes much anxiety for a few of the friends. The heightened stress level accelerates one member’s symptoms to the point of no return; leading our lifelong friends to see the effects of the virus firsthand forcing each person to evaluate what it means to survive.

Update: Dean Jones (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0427896/), two time Emmy award winner, loved our script and has agreed to create the creatures for our film! We only have 4 days left and only need around $600. If you can, please help us fund it, and/or pass the link along to your friends.

We premiered the trailer last weekend at LeakyCon in front of a few thousand people and it received an amazing response. It was an unbelievable experience. We just debuted the trailer today which you can check out below.

First of all, congratulations for getting such good acting talent for the film. I do think you will run a bit into the problem of "holy crap it's luna lovegood", but I suppose that's a good problem to have!

As for the trailer itself, there were some very good parts and some not so good parts.

The good: The films has a nice look to it, the creatures look fantastic. The dark face at the end just before the title came up was probably the highlight of the trailer for me. The acting seems solid.

The bad: 3 minutes is really pushing it for a trailer. I didn't feel that the first part of the trailer blended all that well with the second part. By far my biggest issue with the trailer was the song. First of all the trailer for The Social Network already used a cover of creep, and that's probably the most renowned trailer of the past decade, so this did seem a bit like "copying". Even worse than that though is that the cover is just not very good. When you couple that with the fact that the footage in the middle of the trailer didn't really say anything, it really drags a bit. I loved the trailer in the beginning, and loved the end, but the middle section cheapened the rest of it for me.

All that being said, I definitely want to see this! What is the plan for the film?

Have to agree on the stuff mentioned above. I don't know who cut the trailer but you might want to.. not.. have him/her cut any more trailers for you. The footage looks nice, the acting looks nice, and so does the overall production value -- But the trailer is just not the slightest bit engaging. All I saw was kids running around crying and contemplating. If this is all the movie is about then you might definitely want to cut down on the trailer running time and at least pretend there's more to it than teenagers going all Donnie Darko.

Besides the (to me) flawed trailer I still find it pretty obvious this production has true effort and thought put into it, and I definitely hope to catch the final film when it's released.
