new to the GH1 and new to photography

I can't get the aperture setting to 3.5 (it only goes as low as 4.0) -- I'm using the stock lens -- I saw from a tutorial that you should be able to do 3.5

I followed Hotrod's link to quick start guide, did I change something maybe that won't let me go below 4.0

4.0 is as open as the kit lens go. You must have read some tutorial concerning working with another lens.
