I'd like to know what the best microphone type would be if you wanted to record inside of a black hole.
I just want to be ready in case the need comes up :D

Wow, eight years. hmmm I recorded all this dialog in a big water tank with a long shotgun mounted on the camera. How do I get it to sound like a Hollywood film?

Rippie: I would use a Sennheiser ME67 Shotgun mic, and point it directly at the back of a fan off axis of the center of the fan, 30 degrees west in a hyperbaric chamber. You can also put a muti-band compressor on the track you record and run it through any chorus plug-in you want. When you are using the chorus plugin you can put the intensity parameter to 33.0% and the rate at which the chorus pulsates should be at 1.966Hz; the mix ratio should be wet to dry, with the wet ratio of 100. If you've given her all shes got then and it still doesn't help, Captain Kirk could sure help you out.

Noiz2 Assuming you're going to re-record the dialog you should get a drum tom with no drum head on it; and place 4 layers of saran wrap around the bottom of the drum, and fill the drum with water. Take that same microphone, and place it underneath the saran wrap; get the same actors or people that have similar voices, to redo the dialog by speaking into the drum of water. Add compression to your liking and add chorus effects to give it a wishy washy sound. But you don't have to use a tom drum, any drum will work, but its preferred to use a tom.

Glad I could help!

The last interview I did had some problems.
I didn't monitor the audio with headphones because I didn't want to mess up my hair.

I put the microphone right over the persons head but I can barely hear them. I do hear the ceiling fan REALLY loud though.
I don't know what happened. I pointed the xlr connection right at the persons mouth and I wasn't more than 3ft away.

I tried that once, and every time I got the boom close to the talent the dang thing kept dissappearing. Next time I'll just stick a wireless lav on, and stay this side of the event horizon. If anyone runs across a 416 with sennheiser spelled backwards, it's mine.

Perfect. I didn't have water so I used about 3 gallons of Dr. Pepper. It sounds perfect except I'm getting this popping sound. Any ideas?

Interesting your bring this up, I was asked recently to fix audio because they "sound person" had the blimp turned the wrong way and all they were picking up was the whispering of the crew. I asked how could this happen and the explanation was that the mic was in the blimp when they rented it and they had no way of knowing it was pointed the wrong way. Needless to say, not a headphone on set. On the bright side, levels were good with peaks right around -10. Looked good on the meters.

At some point, we should notate that this entire thread is in jest, lest it confuse any newbies coming along reading the archives and thinking this is real.

OK
for all those non long timers...

Welcome Studio ?, I forget the OP... sorry. OK so you came off as a bit of a ... , well a bit arrogant. As if the the rest of us (many of whom have a lot more than your eight years) are just waiting for your wisdom.

Truth is it's good to have someone with some experience on the forum but you should be advised that eight years makes you a new-bee relative to many of the regulars, so maybe you want to back off on the "I'm the pillar of knowledge" stance

Otherwise Welcome aboard!
Cheers

Aye, arrogance at its finest, I apologize for coming across as a prideful, 'I run the world' type, My main goal was to answer real questions people may have accurately and as fast as possible. The goal was never to show off.

I'm privileged to be posting on this forum, I appreciate your guys' questions and feedback.

Wasn't trying to be harsh, just explaining why you weren't getting any serious questions. There are always a lot of questions here so jump in.
Some of the "not serious" questions come awful close to some real questions I've heard, though I don't remember black holes coming up before ;~)

The best thing to do is to just answer the questions you know the answers to as and when they arise.

That's what I do.

I have been recording for over 30 years and have lots of knowledge in many areas - so, if a question comes up that I can help with I join in and answer; if it's an area I'm not familiar with, I keep quiet (I am a sound man, not a picture man).
