Anyone with an F23 in Los Angeles?

I think the hype around large sensors will last a long while yet.... perhaps at least until top notch medium format cinema cameras become affordable.

But who is to say it will stop there? lol, I hope so!!

The difference between a Canon cine-"style" zoom a proper 2/3" prime is huge. I would wager nearly nobody actually ever used the old 2/3" "cinema" cameras (eg. F900) to their full capabilities. Myself included.

I shot with the old Panasonic HPX-900 (a 720p camera!) and Panavision Digital Primos... the image was gorgeous

Got the F23 in today, dock lock arm broke off in shipping, dang it, but camera seems to be working just fine. I was very fearful this would feel like a ENG 2/3" news camera. Color, movement, highlights rolling off seem very close to the F35, all good things. The depth of field obviously doesn't feel like super 35mm, but I don't really mind mostly because I have a F35 for exactly that look. The camera still seems to hold the magic of the F35 which was great to see.

From a speed of use stand point, the F23 should be a lot quicker and this is what mostly has me excited about the camera. ND filters work quickly, preset cc is nice too and a breeze to use. Funny I think 4300 and 6300 look better indoors and outside than the 3200 and 5600 options. 60 fps works with the 7Q. Connected a fujinon 1.8 7.6-130mm camera powers the zoom and recognizes the lens. I'll post some photos once I get the parts in to make a complete setup for the F23.

Both my F35 and F23 originally came with a rattling noise inside. With my F35 it was a loose screw, opened up the F23 and it turned out to be the same thing. I snapped a photo of the inside while I had the side off.IMG_3209.jpgIMG_3203.jpgIMG_3206.jpgIMG_3214.jpg

yes anytime Mac.

James you trying to setup Avatar style 3d with 2 F23's? haha

Well, that's actually how this set of two cameras was being used. Both are from the same seller. I may have guessed wrong, but I think the F23 should have a better market value than the $3600 I paid for the first unit. And if it was a bad gamble, well... at least I have even more spare parts.

Additionally, the F23 I already received was in excellent condition, with less than 2000 hours. Since they were 3d rigged in a studio, I expect the second one to be similar. And, the seller tells me both of these units did receive replacement optical blocks from Sony (as we've discussed before, the prism chip alignment on the F23 is second to none, and Sony replaced a number of optical blocks from early production that didn't meet their standard). Serial on camera I've already received is 10119.

James Martin - Well, I'll just say, the price was right... and given that we've only ever seen 2 F23's on eBay... they seem a rare bird. Not sure when I'd see one around again.

I would have bought one if it wasn't for the fact I may have gone a little overboard with lens purchases recently, and it would have been as a curiosity only. I have my 35mm cameras for quirky reasons right now.

The weather, and life in general is just beautiful on La Palma. How do you like LA?

I've never been to La palma actually, only Lanzarote and Fuerteventura (and a bit of Gran Canaria).
I love Lanzarote. Really nice place for living.

nice combo! that middle camera looks very clean.

I took the F23 for a quick shoot with the pictured b4 lens - yes I see lots of issues like blur on the edge and tunneling when I zoomed in, but it worked just as it would on any 2/3 camera. ND filter wheel and CC wheel are so wonderful when working alone with a camera.

How does that set look? I know it is a bit older but it covers an extremely good range. I am much more interested in pairing the F23 with lightweight zooms.
