Anyone with a HD100 in the Los Angeles area?

If so, I'd love to bring over my 'portable' HD-SDI box to try some uncompressed direct to disk captures. Let me know.

Thanks,

harlan

PS - My schedule is a little wonky right now as I wrap up a few projects, but we can hopefully arrange some time to play around.

Too bad I didn't know you were around a week ago Harlan, I would have invited you to join my HD100/Mini35 tests...

No problem Charles, maybe we'll get to dick around with one in the future.

Hey Jarred, the box is a DIY built by my engineer, but it actually works so well that we're working on setting up an arrangement with the component manufacturers so that we can sell the unit. It's a half racked sized box an inch shorter in length than the Panasonic 1200 DVCPRO-HD deck, and it can 'theoretically' store about an hour of Uncompressed 4:4:4 via the HD-SDI input. I say theoretically because the built-in disk array has a 30% or so buffer zone to accomodate for disk slow down as the drives fill up (the buffer zone should be past the "hour" point, but I won't claim an hour til we test it).

The ideal behind the gadget was to build an HD-SDI ingest box capable of capturing UC 4:4:4 in the same size box as the AJ-1200 - so that it's somewhat portable.

c'ya guys.

Sure. It'll work with anything capable of ouputting an HD-SDI signal - with the HDV & HVX200 cameras you'd just need an Analog 2 HDSDI convertor.

Honestly speaking, anyone could build their own uncompressed HD-SDI capture box, but our goal was to make a unit as compact and affordable as possible so that it could be lugged along with a 950 or a Viper. The unit turned out so well that we thought others would like to have similar capabilities without having to blow a ton of cash.

Bear in mind that I'm a filmmaker, not a salesman. :)

PS - As soon as we finish thoughly testing the unit, I'll send you a pdf with the specs & photos if you want.

I shot a car commercial last week on the F950 fed into this little portable Uncompressed HD-SDI capture box (currently called eCLIPs). It worked flawlessly. Lots of great footage, captured onto a tiny array of 10K RPM 2.5" SAS notebook sized hardrives. Weeeeeee...

If it works with the F950, then I'm quite sure it'll work in the real world with the HD100 or anyother camera capable of outputting an HD-SDI signal. It'll record all the way up to a 2K frame size at uncompressed 4:4:4 quality.

we built it ourselves using pretty much off the shelf components - it's entirely self contained. After building and testing it, we thought perhaps it would be something you guys would be interested in as well, so we've been working on setting up OEM arrangements with a few of the component manufacturers in order to build a marketable unit.

While we're not doing anything drastically different than you can do yourselves, we're the only unit that I know of at least utilizing the new SAS based 10K RPM 2.5" drives. Doing so allows us to put the unit in a very small form factor, and doesn't require as much cooling as a 3.5" solution would. The ideal is that by getting the components at OEM prices, we'd be able to sell the unit to you guys at a much cheaper price than you'd be able to build with the off the shelf components.

It's "dinero" in spanish or "dinheiro" in portuguese, lol.

Harlan, I'd also like to know that.

Man, I butchered that one. OK, how much wampum?
