Anyone using the Rode blimp on a boom pole?

I picked up a like-new (thanks to Andy!) Rode blimp & was wondering if anyone is using it on a boompole? I think the handle is rather heavy & am considering removing it & replacing it with some kind of lighter adapter... anyone done this, or have any suggestions as what to use?

TIA!

Most zepplin/mount systems are like this. The hand-grip is also the mount for the pole, and usually provides a place to tuck the cable coming out of the blimp. I wouldn't bother with removing it.

I use mine on a pole all the time with no problems. The handle is great on its own as well, don't see why you would want to remove that.

i definately see why you'd want to remove it.
Dead weight on the end of a 13-16ft pole?

I remove the pistol grips from mine when I have the option

Weight with handle & XLR: 1lb 6oz, handle & XLR: 8oz.

So- without the handle that makes for a lighter package at the end of the pole. Maybe Rode will add an adapter to their line of accessories in the future.

I'll probably leave it be for the time being... It's not like I'LL have to hold the pole, eh?

What mic are you booming?

I find a RODE NTG-3 fitted with a WS7 windshield (1.86ozs) on an SM3 shockmount blocks strong steady wind. I've seen their demo with a 12" oscillating fan on full blast 2' in front of that rig, amazing result.

Cheers.

Maybe, but the good ones also have a boom fitting and XLR holder that you can swap over and use instead of the pistol grip to keep the weight down.

At the bottom of the pistol grip thing is there an XLR input? I know its a bit off topic but I can't find any pics of the end of it??

Can you or anyone else explain what the "H" position is?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

The Blimp suspension mounts have 2 fixed positions for rigging the mic.

From the Blimp manual.. 'If using the 300mm clips for a significantly larger or heavier mic. (eg: RODE NT4) the thumbscrews will need to be moved to the 'tall or narrow' configuration. Take care not to misplace any of the 8 spring washers'.

See pix for the 'tall' position, you can see the 4 screw holes in each of the 2 hoops for the 'wide' position.

The mounts can also be moved along the bottom rail to accommodate various mics.

Cheers.
