Anyone using the Pentax SMC 5-135mm F2.8 lens on AF101?

Im looking at using this for longer reach requirements mostly during wedding ceremony stuff and wondered what the pro's and cons are? also are there any better options around this sort of focal length range. I would be using it with a suitable adapter with aperture control.

Thanks
Steve

Yes. I use that lens on my af100 all the time. It is my favorite lens by far. Parfocal design, constant 2.8, very smooth action on both focus and zoom rings, tack sharp at wide open and gorgeous hokey. It is the perfect lens for sit down interviews.

I assume you are talking about the Pentax da* 50-135 f2.8. That is the lens I am reffering to

Yes thats the lens, just realised the title error, the fact that its parfocal is a bonus. What adapter do you use with it?

I use the novoflex adapter. And in my post above it's supposed to say gorgeous bokeh. Stupid auto correct.

For about $600 less, the Minolta Rokkor-X 50-135 f3.5 is also great. Light (~480g), constant aperture, sharp wide open, manual aperture ring. It's only real downside is that it's a 1-touch design.

Tested a friends out with a cheapo adapter and just wondered how you found the novoflex. The thing that concerned me about the adapter he had was the travel for opening the aperture was so slight (probably about 6 or 7mm) whats the travel like on the novoflex?

Thx

I have been very happy with the adapter. The throw on the aperture ring is not super long, but definitely more than your friends. I've found that after some use i was able to make very small smooth adjustments to aperture when needed.

My companion lens to the 50-135 is the pentax da*16-50 f2.8. I often switch between the two and the adapter has held up to frequent lens switching very well. These two lenses along with the panasonic 7-14 are what i use the vast majority of the time. occasionally i use the 20mm f1.7 for slow motion portrait type shots.
