Anyone using the Matrox MXO?

I'm interested in buying the Matrox MXO to replace a CRT for my mostly 24p SD footage. Has anyone picked one up and is willing to share their experience with it? Esp interested in hearing if the level of detail and color truly matches a CRT as Matrox claims.

Thanks.

I haven't used one, but personally I hate the idea of losing a monitor to the MXO. I can't see any real advantage over, say, the Blackmagic DeckLink.

I initially looked into Blackmagic's HDLink which also claims to provide a near-CRT quality image on an LCD display, but I've heard that it gives whole and split frames in SD 3:2 pulldown, making the footage jagged. Additionally Blackmagic makes no claim that the HDLink (or Mulitbridge) provides the accuracy needed for color correcting while Matrox does make that claim. I also like that the MXO doesn't require a PCI card which allows a bit more freedom if shooting and editing on the road is needed, much like an Aja.

This little box is especially handy for laptops. Besides, if you only need output (like with P2) there is no point in investing in an inputcard. And I think you can still use the monitor as a second monitor; whilst using the other outputs for video monitoring. Cause you get SDI and all the analog flavours with this puppy. Although the analog is just SD I think.
Anyway, my dealer ordered one to do tests on its performance. If I hear something, I'll let you guys know...

Good point about laptops. I'm still not necessarily sold one way or the other. For me, having HD-SDI capability is a consideration, but for a lot of people I guess it's not. I haven't heard anything about the Blackmagic giving pulldown problems, but I'll examine that claim a little more.

Otherwise, for a desktop machine, I'd much rather give up a PCI slot than DVI.
