Anyone using HVX for events?

I have been offered several well paying gigs doing events.
I have 3 8 gig cards and a P2 store- so I am not worried about long form recording.
I am worried about low light and murky video.
I am used to shooting with lighting control .

I am thinking of picking up an A1- for these events and any in the future..
but if others are using HVX without issues in event situations-
I would prefer to keep using P2.
Thanks

Bokes,

We've shot several weddings with the HVX recently and had very little problem with low light and murky video. During indoor ceremonies I've had instances where we were wide open on the iris, but never had to turn on gain or slow the shutter speed for proper exposure. Most of the footage was shot 480 30p.

Receptions are another matter, if everyone's okay with the house lights being on we've done well. Maybe adding 6db of gain at times, which has still looked great once it got to DVD. The last wedding we did, the house lights were kept dim for the dancing and I ran the gain up to 12 and slowed the shutter to get good exposure. Needless to say, the footage doesn't look that great, but the client knew going in that if they chose to have dim lighting and didn't allow me to add light the footage from that portion wouldn't look as good.

For what it's worth, we also use a Sony VX2100 and it held up better in the really low light situations, but not by that great of a margin. My biggest challenge has been getting the Sony footage to look at least close to how rich and beutiful the HVX footage is when there is enough light.

Hope that helps!

Right.
I suppose if the client is aware of lighting issues and how it will effect the video- they really can not complain. My client has already warned me about the low light.
And you're right- the Sony will never look as good as the Panasonic- even when the pany gain is at 12.
I guess I'll just go ahead- shoot this thing and see what happens.
Thanks!

Let us know how it goes!! For what it's worth, I just went ahead and used the "Spark" scene file setting for most everything. Nice saturated colors with skin tones and looks that match the whole wedding genre.
