Using FS100 with FCP-X 10.0.1, no problems. Works like a charm - if you have no interest in metadata, that is.

Timecode is recognised just fine.

I transcode to ProRes because the whole process is a lot snappier, skimming works better, never get a spinning beachball. But the point is that you can be sucking media in (it's relatively fast to copy the files across), whilst editing. You can be transcoding media whilst your editing.

So, after a day's shoot, the cards go in, and whilst they copy across, I'm marking favourites from the rushes. Then, let it sit overnight doing the transcode ready for editing the next day (or for putting aside).

I use the 'sparseimage' method - each project is on its own virtual disk, making a 'Sparse Image' with Disk Utility, mounting it, then having FCPX use it to work with. Makes handing over a project, or archiving it, or simply managing backups, a LOT easier!

Very useful 'archive' function for each card, BTW.

One of the main reasons I use FCP X is that I DON'T have to transcode and I can ingest 5 hours of footage in like 20 minutes. The native workflow is pretty smooth for me on a 3.33 6-core MP. But there is nothing wrong with transcoding to ProRes either. The workflow described above is smooth.

I use final cut pro 7, transcode using clip wrap, its decently quick then if I want to conform 60p shots to 24 i have to send those clips through mpeg stream clip then through cinema tools. Kind of slow process for 60p/24 but worth it. but, for just 24p, 30p or 60i you could log and transfer with fcp which is decently quick too.

LiamR, Dermot, what you think about work whit fs100 footage on this program?
Like Evan i use Clipwrap, then Avid sees it as it's just another media source... I'm not a huge fan of AMA, but MC6 does support AMA from the Sony wrapper should you decide to use it.

Media Composer is a rock solid storytelling toolset.

i also use Avid's DS|Nitris, and again FS footage works transparently.
