Anyone using Firefox?

I just made the change this evening after spending about 4hrs getting rid of goddamn LOP malware my Dad accidentally installed! (I think there may be 'SaveNow' in the Windows Registry still but the only scan that picked it up was a free online one that you had to buy to remove stuff) I decided to be a bit more secure and swap IE for Firefox.

I quite like it so far, like the tab option. Does seem to run alot smoother than IE and I'm enjoying the extra browsing space and fresh look (to me, having been looking at IE for years).

Anyone else using it, and what do you think of it? Or to make things slightly more interesting, anybody having malware/spyware problems at the moment, or had some recently that were a real biatch to get rid of?

...I'm kinda bored

Firefox rocks. It is a bit of a resource hog, but it's a lot more secure than IE. No malware here.

You can do specific google searches for ways to remove malware. Most people don't realize this but Realplayer comes bundled with adware, those sneaky bastids.

For the most part if you stay away from porn sites you should be fine. Not saying your Dad was downloading porn, but it's the easiest to get swamped with malware. :)

I use both. Used to use Opera a lot too. I recently installed MSN toolbar so that I could have tabbed browsing in IE as well.

As for spyware/adware, I used to spend hours and hours fighting it in a valiant effort to rid friends of the insanity of constantly changing home pages and popups. Now I just offer to fix it as long as they're cool with a format and re-install of the OS.

Yup, gotta love Firefox. The extensions are cool, especially the Weather toolbar and mouse gestures 1.0.

Internet Explorer 7 will be released soon. It's going to have tabbed browsing, and presumably, better security.

HAHAHA! Nah, he was looking at webcams (of locations around America, not porn hehe) because my brother is in San Diego at the moment (going right around the country for 3 months) and we've been checking out webcams so we can get him to go to them and wave to us and what not. While my Dad was going to every page Google found he got one of those pop-ups that pretend to be programs saying your computer needs something (I guess they DO actually fool people) and then he went to click cancel but it was the image (anyone still following? hehe) and installed a LOP toolbar. (I really feel like swearing outloud when I say/write LOP toolbar, I hate it soooo much :)).

Anyway, it took me awhile because I first tried to do what I'd done when my friend suckered me into getting MSN Plus, *shudder*, awhile back, got rid of the LOP toolbar and desktop crap. That didn't work but I managed to follow instructions given to some other people on a tech forum (www.d-a-l.com) to be precise. Anyway, after Ad-ware and Trend Micro PC-Cillin and HouseCall failed to find ANYTHING, this Panda Software thing found 25 infected objects!!! I had to boot up in safe-mode and delete them, because a few were automatically being run normally.

Anyway, that's my long story of how I spent 4 hrs of yesterday (it's now 12:14am), instead of watching numerous Pete & Pete episodes.

Yeah, I'm not too sure what that Panda Software thing was called, but it was their online scan and if any of you get malware-d up, I suggest going there and doing that scan, did the trick for me and the person on the d-a-l.com forum.

Firefox is great. I use it 95% of the time and have no spyware after months of constant use. I accidentally used IE a couple times (and I use it to upload files) and I already have spyware and adware. Amazing.

Been using it for the past few months. Moved to Mac recently and use it here too instead of Safari, with OS X skin. Works great, I don't see a reason to ever install IE again.

Yeah, I use Firefox too. It's great. No spyware here either. The integrated popup blocker is a very nice addition.

Hah! IE 7 have better security? What a laugh. It may fix some of the old problems, but it will introduce so many new ones that there will be no advantage. Of course, this is all IMO. I guess we will have to wait and see, but Firefox does the job for me, so I won't be trying IE when the new version comes out.

I'll be checking out IE7 for web design considerations. Hopefully it will be more standards-compliant. But I doubt it.

Horse-I'm diggin' the new logo.

I have been using Mozilla/Firefox for a couple years now. Beats the snot out of IE in terms of security.

No virii for me! Plus, I love to stick it to Microsoft whenever I can.

I patched as soon as the update was avaliable. Although there are security holes, there are still many advantages. 1: They patch the program a lot faster than M$ does IE. 2: There have been fewer security holes discovered thus far. 3: Everyone who finds holes gets cash and Mozilla swag.

CASH?!?!? im downloading firefox rite now and im gonna search for holes.

I knew getting into computer programming would help me one day...muuhahaha

How much cash do they pay...?

Firefox is definitely easier and safer than IE in my opinion. Ive always used since the day IE turned its back on me and let in its Malware friends...what a horrible day that was. But FF has never let me down, yet.
