Anyone using Carl Ziess lens?

Which one? ZE? CP2s? In general they are good but there are some that aren't that great like the 50 1.4. I also hate not having the auto focus (even for video I like being able to do a quick focus for wedding work)

In general they are very good lenses, but they have a "clinical" look that may or may not be what you're looking for. As in: free of issues, but, for some, without an attractive personality.

I like the contax more than the CP's for the look. I'd love a re-housed set but that gets into crazy money. Lots of Red guys using PL Contax Zeiss

I like the ZE / ZF lenses… they have a decent throw for still lenses, but some of the CZ in the 1.4 stop range are a bit weak wide open. I have a Contax 50 1.7 and have wandered back and forth about collecting a Contax set, but I think some of them have a little more chroma in the highlights than I like for my taste.
That being said, the Contax Zeiss lenses have a nice quality build and so on… so in regards to value for money I think they are ok.

The price on the most popular ones like the 21 Hollywood might be a bit more than one would like to pay for a vintage lens :)

Besides a Tokina 11 - 16 all my lenses are Duclos modded Zeiss ZFs now and I love them. They are consistent, have nice long throws, snap into focus, are crazy sharp, fast and beautiful. One caveat with the ZFs is that your follow focus needs a reverse gear. One plus is the manual de-clicked aperture rings. In lieu of true cinema lenses, they provide a lot of value and work well on set.
