Anyone using B4 ENG HD servo zoom on the 100?

I've got a Fujinon 7.6-130 f1.8 w/ 2x for my HPX500, and now that I've had the AF100 for a few weeks, used the 14-140 & 20 Lumix, and a few nice Nikkors, been thinking again about putting the Fuji on the AF100. Rig 12V power for the servo and lens support off rails.

Would love to get feedback from anyone using this style, and their comments. (I'll probably do it regardless, but still interested.)

Check this out. Its kind of cool.

MTF makes a B4/m43 adapter in the $300-400 range. That plus your extender should at least take care of the optical side of things.

Haha. Why don't you want to spend over 5K on a adapter?
I would like to see how this looks and feels but I dont have that kind of cash either. But you did spend a good amount on the lens.

"3xCDD sensor to single sensor optical path and magnifies the image to cover 22mm image circle: 1920x1080"

This is what is interesting to me, how the adapter takes the image and changes the optical path and re-sizes it. I would like to see what it would look like with and without the 5K HDx2 B4/PL Optical Adapter to see if its justified.

what about powering the lens, auto iris & the record start/stop button on the lens?

From blog. Looks like a custom cable was made.

"We chose to mount the Canon 11×4.7 (4.7mm-52mm) zoom to the rig, because it is both an excellent piece of glass as well as a very popular zoom, but any B4 mount zoom will work with the kit. The Canon 21×7.3 is another popular choice, as are many Fujinon and Angenieux zooms. We used an ENG version of the lens and plugged our custom cable in to power the zoom servo, as well as enable the start/stop control of the camera with the lens’ REC button."

why isn't there a lens manufacturer out there willing to make optics that would cover this sensor, in either native or nikon mount format that would have a servo zoom and be internal focus

I'm sure somebody is or will... but considering the price of 2/3" ENG lenses, I'm slightly fearful of what such a beast would demand in sacrifice.

If their where more MFT cameras then a market could be established but I don't think it will happen. to thin of a profit margin. ENG lenses for 2/3 chip cameras cost $6,000 to $25,000. I don't think a 1/4 of the AF-100 owners would buy one.

Exactly right. The ENG/EFP market is vastly larger. M4/3 could not come close to that and then the sub-market for servo zooms would be a fraction of that. If you need servo zoom, the 2/3"lenses are the answer.

i can't seem to find that cable on their site. i wonder if there is a way to make the cable myself and what the pin configuration is on the servo cable. does the servo cable power the auto iris as well?

I would call Abel Cine Tech and ask them about it. They probably had a engineer in the shop put it together.

You won't get Auto Iris without a control loop to the camera, I'd assume, so forget about auto iris (who really uses that anyway). Look in your lens manual for the pinout configs & break out the soldering iron... that's what I'll do. 12V for the servo. AF100 Rec & Index are simple contact closures (add a resistor is all). I'll wire the "Review" button on the lens to add Index marks to the clip.... that'll be nice.

Thanks Mule! Impossible to tell from the Tube vid (it looks good), but do you have any issues with chromatic aberrations? Fringing, etc? You haven't felt the urge to wire up some 12V to the Fuji?

I will be doing some more testing with the HD lens when it cools off. Its been hot as a cat on a tin roof here. The footage was shot from inside the house thru a door window. mostly close up The manual part is not and issue. I guess i'm old school. I did consider the Abel Cine but unable to get a price. I called NY and CA and no sales folks were there or available. I'm sure there will be an available source. Lots of old SD lens lying around there.
Mule
